A bright casual spot for tacos and Mexican food. The prices are higher than I expected. Service is fast and friendly. A little noisy when sitting inside. They even have patio seating. The basic bean and cheese burrito was OK. The Super Burritos were well stuffed and flavorful. Basically all dishes were well presented and decent. For a casual quick meal this spot this will do.

Delicious food and excellent service. Parking is usually easy unless you come during lunch hours, but roadside parking is available. It’s also very convenient to stop by from the highway — just a quick 2-minute drive off the 101 to grab a tasty meal.

Mexican comfort food doesn’t get much better than this. Grullense is the evolved version of a hole-in-the-wall type taco joint. Yes you have seats inside but way more folks lining up to just to takeout. It almost feels like a street market to some degree. And they don’t attempt to hide this fact. It is happening. It is meaningful. It is a fantastic experience.
The place looks a bit run-down but I guess they’re going for that vibe. The prices are cheap and reflect that street-side feel. However, it’s not like dirty or anything. Absolutely lovely but they’re going for the everyday comfort food vibe and atmosphere which they pull off well.
Service is great. Very kind grandma who keeps dishing out nachos as you wait. All smiles behind the counter. Really felt like a family running the business from a good heart.
And yes, the tacos are awesome. Plenty of meat for a $2.75 taco. And yes, you can go more fancy. But again, really, there’s no need. Simplicity allows the rich flavors of the meat to come alive. Salsa and pico de gallo are all fresh and good. The food here is legit.
Make sure you also get the Horchata labeled under Agua Fresca. Absolutely delicious and rich in cinnamon. Very rare for the Bay Area.
If you’re hungry for some down-to-earth Mexican food in the Bay Area, it doesn’t get much better than Tacos El Grullense. It really doesn’t.

Outstanding buurria tacos. Got the steak burrito too. What is this spicy sauce. It is new to me – oily and a bomb flavor.

IF I WANT BOOGERS WITH MY BURNT CHORIZO… This was my 3rd time eating there. I ordered the Desayuno with chorizo. I knew something was going wrong with the order when it did not come out of the kitchen and I noticed no one at the grill, the male cook was not there. Finally a woman stands there seeming to question her life choices (I should have been famous but somehow I am here…) and eventually pull on some gloves. My food finally came to the table. But try as I might to just eat it, the chorizo was so burnt as to be crispy, crunchy and unpalatable. Which is on management b/c it seems like it is up to the customer to push back not on the kitchen to say, OOOPS and start over. Management needs to tell staff not to send out bad food, it’s okay. The counter person, young female at cash register, was nice enough and offered me a new breakfast, and I said I would take just eggs and beans and rice. But then she just scraped it into the trash, she did not show anyone. And I sat there questioning MY life choices because a couple minutes before I had her come over to my table to show her the burnt mess, the phone rang and she picked up the phone and at the same time stuck her finger up her nose and then rubbed the phone as she listened to the order. I sat there for a while just kind of watching everyone and finally said, Forget it, and told her to forget it and I left, also flipping the bird from the car because that was a huge waste of money. I am so glad I did not fork out the $6 for a small horchata. I can’t imagine that I will go there again. It is way too expensive for the lack of value. I understand about the Sysco and US Foods duopoly making all the prices ridiculous but then the restaurant is on the hook for an experience of value equal to the ridiculous pricing (again that the restaurant has little control over). Anyway, if I ever want boogers with my burnt chorizo, I’ll be back. And…if this is dining out in 2026, forget it.

This place is lovely. Really nice outdoor seating and they made me a delicious chile relleno burrito with no rice

Don’t know how a $12.50 breakfast burrito with coffee turned into 22$! I asked for chorizo and ham on the burrito and come to find out it’s extra 2$ for chorizo and charged me 2$ for extra meat! On top of that the burrito was dry and mostly rice and beans. If you’re looking g for a really good breakfast burrito that is not over priced, go to El Charrito off of Holly in San Carlos!

Tacos were ok, not great, not horrible. Al pastor tacos were salty and the carne asada was underwhelming. As others have commented, the menu font is way too small. I don’t want to have to struggle to figure out what is on the menu or, or what the meat selection is. And not having the prices on is, well, annoying. Come on. Just admit that you made a mistake, and get a new menu board made.

Really nicely decorated a more modern yet still casual feel. Menu board lettering is too small and no prices, really? Pastor is was too salty but the carnitas are good. Shrimp was ok but bland. Would really appreciate a salsa bar. Until I see improvements I’m sticking with other better options.
