Tacos El Gordo, San Diego – Reddit
I enjoy the tacos in my hometown more. The adobada were better than the asada, but I’m hard pressed to find a taco that’s not better than their asada.

They don’t serve you food here. They serve you lies… the facade of the real Tacos El Gordo. Got carne asada tacos and I feel like I lost some Mexicanness inside of me.
If I told my family the atrocity that I ate, they would disown me. This is my official confession. On the off chance my family ever sees this… I’m sorry I disappointed you.

In A Nutshell:
-Tacos el Gordo is a small shack across the beach off of Ocean Front Walk.
-I recommend ordering their FISH TACOS.
-You get two of them for $10.99.
-They taste very, very good.
-They have the right crisp, the fish is moist & I really love their tartar sauce.
Overall, the service is very efficient & friendly.

CONGRATS… you have stumbled upon a review of the WORST taco shop in existence. Pretty sure it is a front. We got the shrimp tacos with side of beans and it was lukewarm unseasoned shrimp we barely took one bite and trashed it. Worried this place will give you E. coli. Absolutely absolutely disgusting. The most embarrassing food I have ever been served in my life. I have absolutely no idea how this place is open, let alone running in pacific beach where good tacos are abundant. I was so appalled I have never been so disappointed by a food place in my life. Unreal.

Delicious. The carne asada tacos were delicious, and the salsa verde was tasty. The fish tacos were good as well, but those carne asada tacos were impeccable

The good reviews of this place are definitely not from local San Diegans. I was walking the beach early morning and after a night out, rolled tacos for breakfast sounded good. During placing my order I felt regret but there was no turning back. This place is TINY! Nowhere to prep anything “fresh.” Sure enough, I received freezer aisle taquitos, which honestly I was a little relieved to get after peering into the kitchen area.
Hey, I like freezer aisle taquitos, and these were fine, but I don’t like paying $10 for only 5 of them. And, like I mentioned above, as a local San Diegan, I know what REAL taco shop rolled tacos should be. This isn’t it.

A nice taco shack down by the beach. This place was low-key but delicious. The fried fish tacos were pretty sharp and pretty simple, I think it was fish, cabbage, and tartar sauce. And the carne asada was really intense. Definitely worth $10 for a few tacos if you’re near the beach.

The carne asada tacos are melt-in-your mouth delicious! No designated seating area, but the view of the ocean is really great!

Seems odd to show up to a taco stand at 6 pm on a Tuesday (March 25th, 2025) and it’s not open. Posted hours on Google list it as being open. If it is seasonal that information is not posted anywhere. Drove here and took the time to find parking only to see that the business is not open.

Not the best fish taco in San Diego as claimed. Not even the best fish taco in PB. Fish tasted as if it were microwaved

People who gave this anything less than 5 stars are fools. Absolute king of tacos. Best fish taco in San Diego is no hyperbole. Carne asada was also top notch.
