Outpost of a chain of no-frills taquerias specializing in spit-roasted pork adobada.

Tacos El G is OK. Would rate it higher but the food was greasy (which can be ok) but the portions are small. Why not go to Tacos el gordo? This just looks like a failed attempt to copy them. Love the staff. Just overpriced and underwhelming.

FLAVORLESS! Went here thinking it was Tacos El Gordo! Seriously! It is not! Cheese cake was hard, definitely old. Tacos wet, wet, wet and absolutely flavorless! Sadly we had to abandon what I imagine dog food taste like and went to the real Tacos El Gordo. When you google Tacos El Gordo, this place is in the results, my mistake. Don’t make it, take the trip 10 min away to Chula and hit up the read deal, that’s what happened.

Tacos el G on a Monday night? Yes, please. No line, and the service was fast and friendly. The tacos were incredible! I’ll definitely be coming back very soon. Plus, they’re open past midnight—a huge bonus.

On 10/31, I ordered some carne asada fries and tacos. The food was unnaturally blue and had a weird texture. At first I thought it could be a sauce, but the color was so weird to the point where I thought something was spoiled or maybe a chemical had gotten into the food.
Since I went through the drive thru, I did not notice the food was that color until I got to my destination 40 minutes away.
As soon as I noticed, i tried calling 6 times to ask if there was something in the food, but no one answered. I even tried to call the next day and no answer. I ended up throwing the food away.
On 11/1 I went in person to try to get a refund. The lady admitted the cook accidentally included too much of a certain ingredient that day. However , I was told there is nothing they can do, and that it is my fault for not coming back to the restaurant the same day even though I was already 40 minutes away, and even though they did not answer the phone 6 times. I showed my phone call logs and the employee said , well we were busy probably.
When she said this , I asked for a manager but I was told there is no way for me to contact the manager, and that the manager has no set schedule, which is not helpful.
I tried to be polite but the employee was immediately defensive, rude and unhelpful. She even claimed thousands of people came and went and that no one complained, which cannot be true because the people who I bought the food for thought the color looked nasty.
I believe they are being cheap and do not want to own up to the mistake that the cook made that day.

Tacos El G was a disappointing experience overall: while the dining room was clean and the service was good, the food quality was subpar, portions were small, and prices felt high for what you get, with very limited menu options considering the quality. The restaurant itself felt dirty in places, especially the restrooms, which really took away from the experience. I was honestly duped—I thought I was going to the well-known, top-rated Tacos El Gordo, but Google Maps redirected me here instead. Once I realized the mistake, it made sense, because in no way, shape, or form should this place measure itself against the original Tacos El Gordo.

The adobada was not cooked on a trompo like it used to be and the meat was disappointing. The tortillas were also not good straight up just dipped in oil. The asada tacos were decent and those tortillas were homemade, which helped. Overall, the adobada tacos tasted like something you could get at a fast-food taco shop, which was disappointing compared to how Tacos El G used to be. 2 starts just because of the Asada taco.

This is NOT TACOS EL GORDO!
Even if the place looks like it, it isn’t, the tacos are not as good as from what I remember at tacos el gordo. I ordered 2 asada and 2 suadero. The suadero was so dry it was hard to get a good flavor. I asked if I could change because they were dry, and I was told no, because it had 1 bite on it, i said, that’s how I know they were dry.dhe asked someone else, and they did change them,I got adovada, but no,the flavors are just not the same. Sorry. But next time I will pay more attention and make sure its tacos el gordo.

Never going here again! I ordered 2 carne asada tacos and it was really salty. This is coming from someone that dont mind salt. But for some reason this place went a little crazy with salting the meat. Also, this whole time we thought this was Tacos El Gordo as this use to be an old location. But apparently its not and we pretty much got tricked thinking the same name but shorter. Be careful! This is not Tacos El Gordo!

Hands down, unequally, my favourite tacos in this god forsaken country and the only reason I ever come to san diego. If i am ever within 4 hours of this hellhole of a city, you better believe I found my way to Tacos El G, superior to Tacos El Gordo for sure.
