Had dinner at Tacomex in La Crosse with some friends and was excited to finally try their lengua tacos and quesabirria. We also ordered asada fries and a burrito bowl. The food came out quickly, and I was lucky enough to get the last of the lengua—definitely a win!
One of the best parts of the experience was the open kitchen, where we could see fresh tortillas being made alongside our orders. Everything had amazing flavor, and the salsas were on point. It genuinely felt like I was back in Arizona with how authentic and delicious everything was.
Great tacos, great staff, and an all-around great experience. Highly recommend!

My husband and I were out for a work trip and we found this place, the restaurant was absolutely amazing and had a very family like atmosphere. Their abuela makes the best food ever, the salsa was also super good, it was addictive. Anyone looking for some hearty warm affordable food you’ve gotta stop here you won’t regret it I swear

Wish I had taken pictures of the food we had and would literally leave 10 out of five stars ⭐️ if I could. The flavors were amazing and spot on. My grandparents have had a Mexican restaurant for 55 years and have been voted best Mexican restaurant over ten years in a row so for me to say this place is great it truly is. I was introduced to Tacomex by a buddy about six months ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s easily become one of my favorite spots in La Crosse. The food is incredible, the hospitality is top-tier, and the overall vibe is unmatched. Alex is a very genuine and down-to-earth guy and someone I’ve been fortunate to get to know personally. If you’re looking for an authentic experience, this place is the real deal—best of the best.

Chorizo Tortas, Pollo Quesidilla, and Birria Soft Tacos.
Chorizo Tortas
Great tasting Chorizo. Came with a nice little spice (nothing to the point where you are screaming questioning lifestyle choices). This is the first time I’ve had refried beans on a tortas, it’s a great addition.
Out of all the tortas I’ve eaten in the area, the bread is pillow soft, with nice bounce. Yet strong enough to handle the condiments. A good tortas.
Pollo Quesadilla
Great take on a Quesadilla. Large portion size. If you’re a picky eater, the quesadilla at Tacomex is flavorful and filling.
Birria Soft Tacos
You can make the argument that Tacomex’s soft tacos are in the top 3 for best in the area. What put’s this taco best in my book is the made fresh at the moment taco tortilla. Whatever protein you pick, you’ll be happy. However, that beef consommé … *chef kiss*
The proteins I had with the meal were all flavorful. Not mass-produced ahead of time. Easily can be in the top 5 for flavor.
It’s stated many times that the taco tortillas are made fresh AT THE MOMENT. True to their word: FANTASTIC.
The red and green sauces are nice and flavorful. Better than the American-Mexican place in Onalaska. There is a nice flavor, body, and mild heat to the sauces here. The sauces aregood addition to any of the dishes you pick. Not too hot if you can’t handle heat. If you’re looking for blazing, you won’t find it here.
It’s easy to recommend the tacos here. Flavor profiles for any of the proteins are good. The sauces are solid and have body to their flavor, great addition to the meals. Prices are comparable, maybe lower in some aspects. The food I had was super filling. I’m coming back to try their burritos.
Service speed is slow, but you taste the attention to detail and quality of food being served; it’s worth the wait. I would have no problems recommending a to-go or pick-up order if you don’t have time to wait. The food will be good.
I’ll have no problems coming back eating here. Food is a solid 4.5 out of 5.

Just ate here super nice place from like a nice little local spot. The food was great. I was greeted immediately when coming in and then he check to see how the food was definitely recommend and I’ll stop here next time I’m in lacrosse.

The food can be good but my past few experiences have been subpar. Downtown La Crosse has a good handful of taco places so it’s not like a major loss. I feel like the quality has declined in the past few months. Business hours are not consistent. Staff very rude and inattentive as of late.

Our team partnered with Mauricio and his family (owners of Tacomex) to host a cooking class for students from Western Technical College. They shared their story of how they came to La Crosse and opened up the restaurant, walked us through how to make birria tacos, red rice, beans, and tortilla chips and then the group was able to enjoy the tacos. Mauricio did an AMAZING job walking through the cooking process and the food (as always) was delicious! The family is incredibly hospitable, kind, and gracious. They are so considerate and remember the orders of repeating customers, which shows a level of care for their patrons. This was the first time our team has done a student experience like this and we cannot wait to partner with them again and explore other dishes!

Best Tacos Lengua in Wisconsin. I try these everywhere. It’s too bad they didn’t have the cabeza because those are usually my preference. Fresh salsas, fresh cilantro, fresh onion, fresh corn tortillas, excellent beans. I WILL come back next time I’m in the area. This is a small place which serves up big quality street food and great customer service. I’d drive out of my way for this again!
