Tried Taco Barn for the first time and it absolutely lived up to the hype worth the drive from Hartford to Newtown.
Ambience & Service- Loved the barn-style decor and cozy vibe. Andrew was friendly, attentive, and accommodating especially with my vegetarian request and even making an off-menu espresso martini.
Food: Ordered Salsa and guacamole were great, though some chips were overly salty.
Tacos were the highlight cauliflower, mushroom, and fried avocado were perfectly balanced and packed with flavor. Others at the table loved the pork belly, jerk shrimp, and chicken options. My husband loved the coconut sauce on jerk chicken and mentioned he felt he was having something out of a Thai food menu. Glazed pork belly was cooked to the perfection and loved the flavor. Our friends in the table ordered chicken Chorizo and mentioned they will be visiting again to try more. I am looking forward to coming here during warmer weather and trying out more food.
Dessert- Tres leches had a noticeable cinnamon flavor, not my favorite, but not a dealbreaker.
Overall Great food, warm atmosphere, and excellent service. Easy to locate.

Absolutely beautiful establishment.
So many details in their decor, and in general. Upon arrival right at 4pm at their opening time, we were kindly greeted at the host stand after passing by a beautiful fire out front. We chose to sit upstairs and were given the cutest little nook of a booth right by the servers station. Absolutely blown away by their standards, by even covering the waters with plastic wrap while waiting for its table. Service was excellent, she explained in detail how the salsas worked as well as how many tacos usually are enough for a meal by the server as well as drink reccomendations. However, not realizing I am a blogger she did wonderful, but the food was sub par. We ordered the salsas with an added guacamole, we didn’t really have a favorite of any of them, chips were a cute round shape but extremely salty. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the classic salsa. Street corn was ice cold, pretty display however, and the tacos.. cold…took one bite of the steak and had to put it down, too mushy and soft of a texture as well as cold, like it was just marinating in a food prep bin.The consistency was just awful in my opinion as well as the shrimp being almost to a raw consistency. The fish and chicken tacos were both ok. I was so excited to finally get here to be disappointed, and not having a desire to come back. After all the hype, I was hoping to be blown away. Thank you for your attention to cleanliness, detail as well as a great server.

2nd UPDATE: Tacobarn is now open at 12:00 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!!!
Also the best, most original cocktails you’ve experienced.

UPDATE:
We came back here two days later because it was so good! I’m still going to give it five stars and a value rating of ten. This visit, we again sat at the bar and we were lucky enough to be served by Natalie, the hardest working bartender in town who was able to singlehandedly keep up with the deluge of customers flooding into one of the best restaurant in the area. Tonights highlight was definitely the Guacamole and Chips, mostly because the chips they are serving are HOUSE MADE and are the best and most unusual corn chips I’ve ever had, and the guacamole was super fresh. The cocktails here are original and unique. I’m ready to move in here and make it my new home!

Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is rustic contemporary. This restaurant is located in the walkable and historic Sandy Hook village located in Newtown, Connecticut, an area experiencing a renaissance of improvements to buildings from the turn of 1the 19th century, and becoming a restaurant haven with at least seven high quality restaurants within a two block area. Tacobarn is extraordinarily unique for its fantastic and original cocktail menu and high quality tapas style tacos and unusual appetizers, entrees and desserts. I had three different cocktails which is very unusual for me, because they were all so very original and can’t be found anywhere else. The first was the ‘Petal to the Metal” (see the cocktail menu photo for description) that included cayenne pepper salt on the rim, an incredible innovation that I’ve never seen anywhere else. The second cocktail was the “Spicy Gardener”, a fresh, cool, cilantro and cucumber creation with a paper thin 8″ slice of cucumber as a garnish. Excellent! The third was the “Smoked Sanguine”, another fantastic and unique offering. All lime juice used is freshly squeezed! For food I had three “Carne Asada” tacos, very flavorful hangar steak morsels with red salsa and pickled onion that was probably the best taquitos I’ve ever eaten. The wife had the ‘Sesame Tuna Bowl” which was super flavorful and also unique. We sat at the bar, where our very experienced, attentive, knowledgeable and talented mixologist, Bekim made our experience memorable. The owner, Chef Adam Greenberg (a four time award winner on the show “Chopped”) has created a wonderful gastro experience that you cannot find elsewhere. The building is a beautifully restored early 1800’s barn that was remodeled so wonderfully that it appears to be brand new. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area with a gas fire pit. We visited on the second day they were open, and things were operating more smoothly than I would have expected especially considering it is almost impossible to staff restaurants in our area. I would recommend this place whole heartedly, and would classify it as a ‘rare gem”. Our bill was 20% less than we anticipated . I can’t wait to come back!

I walked in, I was warmly welcomed and sat at a table upstairs with my guests. I ordered the Pineapple Express mocktail that was tasty while the three others ordered alcoholic beverages that they all enjoyed. We ordered a bunch of small plates, tacos, and sides and everything was insane! The mushroom taco was delicious, the jerk shrimp taco scrumptious- but honestly the dish I keep thinking about is the shrimp ceviche. It was not like any other ceviche I have ever had- but trust me, you should have it! Citrusy, light, and refreshing. We were too full for dessert, unfortunately, but I can’t wait to go back! Tacobarn is going to be a hot spot and a fun place to enjoy a great meal with friends!

tacobarn is my new favorite local spot. The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care — you can tell a lot of pride goes into every dish. The tacos are always packed with flavor, and the menu has something for everyone. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere feels relaxed and fun. If you’re looking for delicious food and a place that truly values its customers, tacobarn is definitely worth a visit. We’ll absolutely be back!

If you’re looking for a cute spot with a nice atmosphere and good drinks, this is it. The inside is gorgeous! Their drinks were delicious and refreshing. In terms of the food, it’s definitely not authentic Mexican if that’s what you’re looking for. The meat for the tacos + empanadas were bland and needed extra seasoning. The shell of the empanada was tasty. Portions are small so keep that in mind when ordering! While it being the first night, our waitress did forget to put in both the empanadas + tacos from our order form. By the time my food came, everyone else at the table was done eating. She was not very apologetic. Service was ok, lack of friendliness from our waitress it seemed.

We tried Taco Barn last night for the first time. The atmosphere was welcoming, the family-style setup was fun, and the tacos (especially the duck and mushroom) were great once they came out. Our waitress was good, though it did seem like she had a lot of tables, so we weren’t checked on as often as we would’ve hoped. There are still a few kinks to work out, like the long wait for the food, one of the taco orders being forgotten at first, and the plantains not being great and needing to be sent back. To their credit, they handled everything nicely and comped the forgotten taco after replacing it, along with the plantains. We’re excited to return, try their drinks next time, and hopefully see this four-star experience become a five-star one!

We just ate at TacoBarn opening night and they did a fantastic job! Never easy on your first night but they nailed IT! Tacos had great taste and flavor lots of options to pick from. Their margaritas were delicious 10/10. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. We did not wait long for our food. Love the atmosphere & vibe they created. Whoever decided on the upstairs rope lighting fixtures is a genius! Set the vibe so well! A+ job! I can’t wait to frequent this place when the weather gets warmer for outside seating too. Excellent job!!! Awesome addition to Sandy Hook

This is a great place to check out when you are in Newtown / Sandy Hook area. It’s a two-story converted barn with a very low key welcoming atmosphere. Staff was great too.

The tacos were incredibly flavorful with a good amount of spice. We will definitely be back!
