Stopped by Taco Vegana in Church Hill on a Saturday around 12:30, and the place was hopping. With welcoming decor and lots of natural light, it serves up local brews and amazing vegan food. The service was great, with exactly the kind of warmth you’d expect from a neighborhood spot. I had the enchiladas with mole and a side of rice. The portions were generous, and everything was super flavorful, with just the right kick. Honestly, it’s such a joy to order a Mexican dish without hesitation that it might contain lard! Clean eating and full of flavor.
Highly recommend a visit to Taco Vegana!

We stopped in during opening week and were very impressed with the atmosphere, food, and service. Everything was so tasty and flavorful. We ordered the Tex mex queso (which was delicious), house margs, and taco plates. We’re looking forward to returning and trying other items off the menu; I was surprised how expansive the menu is, and am excited to try the burritos and enchiladas. Also, they have TVs, which is great because very few restaurants in Church Hill do. Overall, very happy with this addition to the neighborhood!

Best Vegan food in Richmond!!! I recently went to Taco Vegana during a recent visit to Richmond and the food, the drinks, and atmosphere were amazing.
I am not vegan (I am Mexican from Mexico though because apparently that’s important) and enjoyed everything.

Starting with food, the highlights were the al pastor tacos, the carne asada fries, the tree leches cake and of course their salsa roja (solid flavor and the right spice level). The staff also was very proactive to make sure everything met expectations.
The other thing to highlight is the cultural twist they offer. The establishment speaks RVA and the lucha libre decorations around the place is something you rarely see in any Mexican restaurant.
Overall, if I lived in Richmond, I would become a regular.

I could not be more proud of this place! The vibes are perfect, the staff is so welcoming, and you can tell each dish was created with intention. 100% vegan and absolutely delicious!! OH and the drinks – the smoked agave sour is my fav Do yourself a favor and eat here, it’s truly such a gem!

Although I am not personally vegan, this place is within walking distance of my house. And, having walked by it several times, the smell from outside required me to come try it and I am glad it did. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is bumping and the wait staff are great. I couldn’t recommend this place more. My suggestion would be two margaritas and the carne asada fries. They are incredible.

I absolutely love Taco Vegana! It has a cozy atmosphere and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing, especially the vegan chorizo tacos but my all time favorite thing they offer is the horchata, it’s an absolute must try!

If you’re a meat eater, don’t be scared. This place has a full bar, also. The products they use are really good quality. We had the salsa, queso, the special: Mexican pizza, some tacos and a burrito. All of it was pretty darn tasty. Very texmex. As a meat eater, there is a lot of untasty vegan food out there, this place was not one of them. They had good jams going, Popeye and sports on the TV, some construction bros at the bar devouring tacos and queso and beer- so if you’re questioning it or want to try it, this is a solid place to start

We loved absolutely everything we ate at Taco Vegana. However, the stars of the show had to be the queso, street corn, tres leches cake, and horchata. I saw some reviews commenting on the possible staleness of the chips. What came out with our food was incredibly fresh and perfectly salted. Highly recommend visiting whenever you can. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and everything we ate/drank was delicious.

I wish I was writing a better review because so badly I wanted to enjoy this space. It has such a cute little aesthetic especially for a vegan spot in Richmond.
I was met with an experience that I can’t seem to get out of my head. As a lover of good eats, I found myself underwhelmed at the quality of my meal, on top of the misleading wording of some of the items on the menu.

I don’t know who ruined the experience for me prior to coming, but I found it very distasteful that I was stereotyped, and ultimately left to eat the words and consequences of someone else’s actions who had nothing to do with me.

To whoever was “cheating the system” by ordering guacamole and chips separately to go, thank you for contributing to my DINE IN experience. The woman who took my order made a point to state that as an unaware and paying customer, there was an issue with me ordering guacamole as a side.
I originally ordered the supreme (which is supposed to come with queso and guacamole, which in an authentic Mexican restaurant would come as two separate sides, but here it’s just a dollop.) , and after trying to get a better understanding of why it was just a dollop, I was met with resistance for trying to order a simple side of guac to add to my queso and chips.
The waitress made it a point to tell me about how someone or some people who order online try to order it separately or whatever nonsense she said to justify not allowing me to order a side of guacamole. It then became a discussion of price and ultimately I felt shocked and saddened because I felt like she was trying to insinuate something that had NOTHING to do with me.

As a paying customer DINING in, there’s no reason why someone’s TAKE OUT / TO GO order should have had anything to do with my experience in ordering; and even if it did, theres better ways to communicate an up charge. I felt singled out and I’m just hoping that whoever the people she was referring to, weren’t of the same skin tone as I.

This experience was enough for me to not return, because I don’t like stereotypes and being singled out served in my food experiences.

I hope that she was able to go home and reflect on this encounter and will find a better way to communicate with customers vs. projecting onto them.

I was so excited to try Taco Vegan whole doing Veganary this year. Let me tell you, we will be back!!

Get the cheese dip!! We got the option with guac and salsa but the cheese dip was the star. Best I have ever had!!

We split the three taco plate after eating the cheese dip and it was enough food. The asada tacos were the stars but the chikn one was good too. The rice was also good. The black beans lacked seasoning so I wouldn’t get those again.

We also like our cocktail. Looking forward to trying more of those.

The atmosphere was also really cool. It’s a part of town that I don’t go to often but the place had a really cool vibe. I don’t live bars with TVs but that’s just me!

Can’t wait to go again!
