I recently visited Taco Jane and tried the shrimp tacos, and they were really good. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, little bland imo, flavorful, and paired well with fresh toppings and a nicely balanced sauce. The tortillas were soft and warm, holding everything together without being soggy. Overall, a tasty and satisfying spot for flavorful tacos.

I’ll start with the postives! Super cute stop on the way up to the beach. Not an outrageous price point. Beautiful plating. Everything comes with a small side salad.

However…The flavors all around could have been much more intense/interesting. The plantains over beans were good but I would have preferred savory plantains rather than sweet. I would not order the chile rellenos again, it was too soupy (way too much salsa), barely filled with cheese and squash, and I couldn’t even tell that it had been fried it was sadly pretty soggy. I reccomend adding rice to the filling to give it more structure and substance, as well as much less salsa over the top.
My boyfriend got the red snapper tacos. He said the fish was great but again the flavors were just lacking.

Very Marin with low-key vibe. Casual but good food , good ingredients. Affordable in a Marin way. Decent beer selection and good cocktails.

Went here for a somewhat large family gathering. While not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had the quality was good. Every one in the group seemed to enjoy their meals and my steak burrito hit the spot. Margaritas were pretty good too. Staff were friendly and attentive.
I would suggest you guys take orders at the table like a normal restaurant instead of making us go up to the front desk and order. I get that you are probably short staffed but getting our group of over 10 people to the front of the restaurant and ordered took way longer than was necessary, and we ended up making other customers wait while we got everything sorted.
While I don’t mind paying for my meal before I eat it, if you are paying with a credit card it means you have to tip before receiving service, which just seems backwards to me (a tip should be a thank you).
Would go back again.

I was craving shrimp tacos today, so we came here for lunch, our first visit. The tacos were excellent and I appreciated that their side beans were black beans, instead of the refried pinto beans usually encountered. They served some (a bit mediocre) chips with two tasty salsas, one a spicy red salsa that was delicious, and a second with black beans and tomato that was tasty, but lacking the zing of the former. They served our dog a big bowl of water (outside dining, thank you). All in all, it was a very pleasant lunch. We will return.

Fresh clean flavors and cozy atmosphere. The place is kinda small so come here when it’s not so busy if you plan on dining in.

Taco Jane’s is easily the most bland, generic Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. No flavor whatsoever! Ordered the Fajita Mixed plate with chicken and shrimp. Shrimp no flavor, chicken no flavor, onions/peppers no flavor. Black beans were served COLD, rice no flavor either.
Servers were good, which is why I’m giving 2 stars. The food is beyond forgettable. Strongly do not recommend eating here

Where to start…

They serve the community more than any other business.

They continue to innovate and elevate every year and make the best Mexican food even better.

The staff are sweet as can be.

What else can I say except I hope eat through the whole menu!

Update years later:

I’ve been coming to Taco Jane’s in San Anselmo for over 20 years with my family, and it’s been a joy to watch the constant evolution of this beloved local spot. The owner, Matthew “Matteo” Boussina, is incredibly passionate about pushing the restaurant to new limits, often traveling to Mexico City for inspiration. His enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s evident in the menu’s evolution, which always brings something new and exciting to the table.
The snapper burrito has been my go-to for years, but recently, I’ve switched to what I affectionately call the “Jose” – a snapper burrito without rice and beans, but with the addition of their amazing steak. It’s a delightful twist on a classic, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality and innovation.
Taco Jane’s stands out not just for its delicious food but for its authentic Mexican cuisine made with love. It’s the cheapest taqueria in Marin, yet the quality never wavers. The atmosphere is always vibrant, with live music and a welcoming vibe that makes every visit feel like a little vacation. The “black gold” salsa, a charred, blackened tomato salsa with raw ingredients, is a must-try, and their curated collection of mezcal adds a unique touch to the dining experience.
The restaurant’s dedication to its community and its roots is palpable. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a place where memories are made, where the food is a celebration of culture, and where every dish tells a story. Here’s to many more years of enjoying the flavors of Taco Jane’s, where every day feels like a vacation

Been eating here for decades. Love the owner and staff; many of which have worked here since the late 90’s when Taco Jane’s opened.
