Taco Bell is not food. Taco Bell is an idea. A lifestyle. A bold philosophical statement that says “rules are optional and hunger is immediate.” You don’t go there because you’re craving tacos. You go there because you want results fast and you trust the system.
The menu is a beautiful chaos of ingredients recycled into entirely new personalities. Same six things, infinite confidence. Every order feels like a gamble that somehow always pays out. The staff moves with the urgency of people who know history is watching. The drive-thru time to satisfaction ratio is undefeated.
Is it authentic? No. Is it honest? Absolutely. Taco Bell shows up exactly as advertised and never pretends to be something it’s not. Five stars for reliability, audacity, and being there for me when nicer places had already closed. Would return without hesitation or shame.
I wish it were possible to leave zero stars. My recent visit to this Taco Bell in St. Paul was, without exaggeration, the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life.
I went through the drive-thru and ordered two $5 boxes, two extra tacos, and three drinks. The total came to over $17. When I got to the window, the employee handed me one box and a bag, telling me they had run out of boxes and the contents of the second box were in the bag. I checked, and the bag only contained the two loose tacos I ordered. An entire box meal was missing.
When I pointed this out, the employee apologized but then told me I had to pay for the second box. I was completely confused because I thought the initial $17 charge covered everything. It turns out they had charged me over $7 for just two tacos. I ended up having to pay again for the food I had already ordered.
After finally getting the food sorted out, I realized I still hadn’t received my three drinks. When I asked the employee for them, she actually questioned if I had already been given them, as if I were trying to scam her. She then returned with only two of the three drinks. When I asked for the third and final drink, she blamed me, saying, “You need to make sure the screen is correct before pulling ahead,” before finally blaming the whole food mix-up on a “new person.”
I told her the entire situation was ridiculous. That’s when things went from terrible to truly unbelievable. An employee standing behind the one I was talking to called me a “crack head.” I was stunned. I told her, “Actually, I was a meth addict, but I’m in recovery now.” Her response was to laugh at me.
To be treated with such incompetence is one thing, but to be accused of lying, blamed for their mistakes, and then openly mocked and insulted by the staff for my past struggles is completely unacceptable and dehumanizing. I drove away without my third drink and I will absolutely never be returning.
The floor looked amazing. Very clean.
The people are nice but the expediting and attention to detail needs to be better. Either the food comes out great, sloppy, missing complete items that were ordered, or missing add ons or subtractions. No consistency.
I get it fast food, but for the price things cost nowadays, at least make sure all the items are in the bag.
