Great date spot. They set a smooth atmosphere here. Great service from Seth. He gave his suggestions and they were great, especially the paella and gambas. Their version of steak frites was the best and the short rib is a must have. Definitely going back.

We had a great experience dining here with friends. They had no problem serving a party of 8 and the food was incredible! I really liked the variety we ordered, and would definitely recommend ordering in multiple rounds. The drinks were also to die for. We will be visiting this downtown Durham gem again soon!

This is a wonderful Spanish tapas restaurant with especially delicious paella options. The ambience is great for a date night out and a full course of exquisite appetizers and desserts. Will definitely have to come back and try the various tapas and paellas as there are too many options that sound very tempting.

Had a great experience on Valentines Day. Loved the service provided by Betty. Betty did a good job when suggesting dishes, talking about flavors but the most important aspect is the way she treats customers. My favorite was “The octopus” we ordered twice. So tender, juicy, etc. What else can I say? I will definitely come back to Taberna.

The octopus is bomb! Soft and spicy, the chili oil is fire. We asked for a cocktail that the barman didn’t know but he looked it up and mixed it for us, great service!

Great options for tapas. We loved everything that we tried but especially the octopus. For 2 people to share, you may want 4 plates. The staff is very cordial and polite. A great place to grab a meal if you are in the Downtown Durham area or attending an event in Carolina Theatre or DPAC! Plenty of city parking options nearby.

I want to start with some positives. Our waitress was excellent. Her name is on the receipt, Beatriz A. Thanks Beatriz for your efforts to make our time and meal enjoyable. Next, the Spanish wine she recommended was very good. You can see the pics of the wine label. Yes, this is a Tapas bar so the portions are rather small, but the food quality was average, nothing special. You can see the current food prices on the menu pics. That last pic was the sticker shock when we saw the receipt. We were still very hungry and decided to get a pizza on the way home.

Okay experience, it all felt pretty rushed. We ordered a few dishes at a time but everything was brought out almost immediately and we realized we were done with 10 plates within 20 mins & before our drinks were even served. Food was decent but the portions were really small (even for tapas). Could definitely work on slowing down the dining experience to be more enjoyable.

Mediocre to bad experience. Food was okay. Nothing special, and I left unsatisfied. Our waiter was absent for most of the meal. He seemed to be overworked. Still, we had to wait a long time for water, menus, to get our order taken, etc. Stopped coming to our table halfway through the meal, and we were left waterless. Very rushed experience for such an expensive restaurant. Ordered the patates bravas, croquettes, empanadas, calamari. All of it was extremely heavy and oily. Not the best experience. You could not pay me to go back.
