I grew up in DC and loved the Tabard Inn, but until recently hadn’t stopped in in a long while. I’ve been missing out!
Following a visit to the Australian Embassy exhibition, my friends and I walked the short distance, and enjoyed a delightful weekday lunch in the dining room. Such a friendly, warm, creatively designed atmosphere with a feeling of past and present convivially welcoming us in. The menu choices and service were wonderful and our food delicious. I look forward to returning to sit in their cozy wood-paneled lounge with conversational seating and fireplace next time. For atmosphere, they have it all – outdoor patio, cozy fireplace lounge, welcoming bar seating, and vintage restaurant design. Even the restroom design is engaging. A great spot!

Excellent food, great service, wonderful setting. I had a Fried Chicken Sandwich with Garlic Herb Fries ($17) for lunch and ate my Tabard Donut starter ($2) for dessert. The heated courtyard was the perfect place to enjoy a good meal.

What a cool restaurant with incredible history! First, the good – the manager and staff were really lovely and accomodating. We went for valentines day but had booked a time with the brunch menu not valentines day menu (websit was unclear). The manager was quick to change our reservation. We enjoyed some cocktails at the bar while we waited – all very delicious. The atmosphere for the valentines dinner was very romantic and intimate. The first course was delicious. The entrees are where it went down hill. I ordered the squash for the entree, and it was subpar at best – definitely not worth the price. I was very disappointed because the restaurant has great reviews, but it really just felt like they tried to add a vegetarian option to the menu without actually adding any flavor. I barely touched it because it really wasn’t very good, which the waitress clearly noticed but didn’t ask questions or offer an alternative. This was not on par with the rest of the service and also dissapointing. I’d be willing to give them another shot, but with some hesitancy as I was very underwhelmed with the pricier pre fixed menu, which should be higher caliber than regular menu.

I am glad that Tabard Inn came up in my searches for restaurants close to my hotel. I was at Tabard Inn twice, once for happy hour and the next day for lunch. While the food is good (not spectacular), the ambiance is exceptional. Tabard Inn is a historic welcoming space that includes a beautiful quiet lounge for drinks and light food for happy hour and a nice charming bar and dining area. The excellent servers are super prompt and friendly.

The Tabard Inn is gorgeous! So rich in history and culture! A-must visit in DC! Wonderful and super friendly staff. Amazing food! Try the eggs Benedict with crab cakes and the spring salad (hollandaise sauce on the side ;)) —a true gastronomic delight! The Tabard donut is a hit—loved it so much! I will be back and I hope to stay there!

Came here on a Wednesday evening. The inn is beautiful and I loved the bar and dining area. It felt like a window to the past. My non alcoholic drinks were delicious! Our servers were very attentive to us which I appreciated. Unfortunately I was not very hungry so I didn’t get an entree but got little things. The oysters were amazing. Mashed potatoes were missing a little more butter/flavor. The fritters were tart so it wasn’t for me. I want to come back and try an entree and will likely change my rating based on that cause all others I was with enjoyed their main!

I had a truly memorable experience at the Tabard Inn Restaurant in March. From the moment I arrived—without a reservation, no less—the staff was incredibly welcoming and kind. I was invited to sit in the cozy, historic tavern room and enjoy a coffee while I waited for a table. To my surprise and delight, the coffee was on the house—just one of many thoughtful touches that made the evening feel special.
Once seated, the service remained top-notch. Attentive without being intrusive, the staff created a relaxed and gracious atmosphere. I ordered a beautifully prepared fish dish, paired with a glass of wine and finished with dessert—all of which were outstanding. The flavors were fresh, balanced, and comforting, reflecting the charm and care that radiate through the entire experience.
I truly can’t rave enough about this place. It’s rare to find a restaurant that makes you feel so genuinely welcomed and well cared for. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

This restaurant is one of the hidden gems of the Dupont Circle neighborhood. A prime location for the business lunch. Serveral brunch-inspired dishes were available. The seevice is so warm and welcoming. I missed their brussel sprouts but the Leek soup was very rich as a starter. I had the Tabard Omlete with a side of kale. My colleague had the salad.

I have been a long time client of this Restaurant and a group of friends and I spent many Saturdays brunches there and this was a Saturday brunch for a fact well prepared- service very good atmosphere. great although I regret the patio being so enclosed now instead of the old parachute being stretched as a tent for the sun that was so charming it’s just not the same the room upstairs is quaint not as good as the main room. I still love the one at the top of the stairs. This is how it used to be and it’s still really nice -recommended.

Terrific ambiance – very accommodating – the food is delicious – the drinks are divine.
Only situation was that there was no hot water in the shower – both days – eventually came on all be it luke warm – need separate line to accommodate the dishwashers – other than this it is a wonderful – sit by the fire and enjoy…
