Most of what we ordered was actually off-menu, and every recommendation from the staff was a hit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic, high-end meal in Málaga. 10/10 experience!
We made a late reservation and found ourselves heading slightly late as we couldn’t find parking on a Saturday night in Malaga. I guess, Marbella spoils us by offering us off-street parking.
Upon our arrival, we were offered the choice of sitting outside, upstairs or on a table close to the Sushi Bar which we gladly took.
Our table was exclusively managed by João who spoke exceptionally good English to me a d Spanish to my wife. He’s the one who measured the table for me and told me that it’s 70cm and not 60cm as I thought it would be.
We ordered our food without having to look at the menu and I requested 4 lemon wedges and 4 Shiso leaf’s.
This unusual request, made the Chef come out as he had not heard of this request in over 5 years and was so happy to see us in his restaurant.
The attention to detail is truly appreciated and nothing is served unless it was confirmed.
The temperature of the fish as well as the correct ingredients of the Nigiri rice made the Sushi so correct and beautiful.
We were impressed with the reshaping and presentation of the Hand-Roll which was served in a finely shaped Bamboo cup which made it much easier to consume and I applaud João for asking if we wished for Asparagus or Avocado with her Shrimp Tempura. Again attention to detail.
The freshness of Uni was a delight to allow my taste buds to feast on and we always ask for the Wagyu Beef to be served last thus putting a delightful end to our Ta-Kumi Malaga experience.
I have to sincerely praise the owners of Ta-Kumi for building and investing in having loyal and very well trained staff who truly enjoy working for the name Ta-Kumi.
We were greeted by no less than 5 members of staff who gladly came over to our table greeting us and welcoming us wholeheartedly to Ta-Kumi and Malaga.
We now have no choice but to visit Madrid and share our experience and hopefully see happy faces too.
What truly made the evening special, however, was the service. Jorge took care of us in such a warm, confident and professional way that he immediately gained our trust. After a short conversation we simply handed the menu over to him and let him guide us entirely through his recommendations – one of the best decisions of the night. Every dish he suggested was exceptional.
The sommelier’s recommendation, the wine Tres Abuelos, was also fantastic and paired perfectly with the food.
Service that is this attentive, genuine and relaxed is rare to find. Thank you to Jorge and the entire team for making our evening so memorable. We will definitely be back.
Overall it was a really enjoyable experience with a nice view from the 2nd floor, but here a few high la and lows:
1. I can definitely recommend the teas, the one I had was delicious and rich in flavor.
Both the ceviche that came before the meal as well as the tuna tartare with truffles were amazing and definitely among the best we had.
The oysters were nice but probably still best fresh instead of fried, but tastes differ.
What we did not enjoy much at all were the raw carabineros, though the roasted head was nice.
The sashimi was overall enjoyable and of good quality, as well as the first round of nigiri which had amazing flavours. Sadly the 2nd set of nigiri was less flavored and we started to feel quite full. A nice refresher such as granita or something similar would have been a great addition to the menu.
That is especially true with both the fish main coming up next which was rich and deep in flavor as well as the Wagyu at the end.
And while the desert was good, it was a bit too soapy tasting.
Overall a good experience with some true highlights but sadly a bit of a lack of balance throughout the menu overall.
The service was good, though some of the waiters seemed quite new and a bit inexperienced.
Seated at the sushi bar, we enjoyed watching the chefs at work. The food was incredibly fresh and well-executed—we had rockfish usuzukuri (thin-cut sashimi), a mixed hirazukuri sashimi platter, and a variety of cold and hot nigiri (spicy tuna, salmon aburi, toro aburi, scallop, wagyu, quail egg with wagyu), plus hosomaki (spicy tuna) and uramaki (soft-shell crab).
The cocktails were creative, including a wasabi mule and one that tasted like Asian melon ice cream. Joao also recommended a fantastic sake and wine pairing. An unforgettable experience—highly recommend!
