We were in Northampton on graduation weekend, and had difficulty getting into good restaurants, so had to settle for this one, upon recommendation from our daughter’s non-Asian professor. No trouble getting seated. One puts down order at the downstairs counter, pays for it, and waits at one’s table. Service was definitely fast and efficient. We were a party of 4 – 2 herbivores and 2 carnivores. The rice paper vegetable roll was the best tasting out of all the dishes we ordered. Scallion pancake with vegetable wrap was innovative but a bit dry. Spicy Tofu salad was very salty, and the vegetable tofu curry was quite bland. Report about the beef noodle and shrimp fried rice was also just adequate. I guess we were just happy that we didn’t go hungry that night :-).

Tried T. Roots for a bird to eat today. Ordered the hot and sour soup, which was HUGE! Fill bowl of super heated soup, took forever to cook down, but actual spice was not very spicy, but had good taste. The ingredients were very different from regular Chinese restaurant hot and sour. Wife had udon veggie noodles, which was a smaller portion, certainly compared to the soup. We also had soup dumplings, which were ‘okay, but made elsewhere and bought, nit prepared on-site. Overall was good.

Scant Rice for a High Price:
As a regular guest, I have been disappointed a few times by the not-even-half-portion of brown rice in the takeout containers. Tonight, I’d ordered two $15-dishes, and both of the small rice boxes were barely half-full. I politely told a server at the front that I happened to notice the meager portions of rice before leaving, and they agreed that it was inadequate and took the containers back to the kitchen to be filled. Returning a few moments later, the kind server explained that the manager (who remained in the kitchen) said brown rice portions are always that amount, whereas white rice portions are bigger. I considered asking to speak with the manager directly, but as this issue has occurred repeatedly, I opted to post publicly about it here so others can be aware. (The accompanying picture shows the minimal amount of rice given in the containers.) I hope that T. Roots management will reconsider its practice of cheating guests on something as simple as a fair serving of brown rice, especially since I quite like the food and am grateful for the multiple vegan options. Until that may happen, I hope that when future paying guests request a bit more rice, the manager themself gladly and freely offers it, perhaps with a gracious, in-person interaction. Leaving one star for a place I often enjoy doesn’t feel great, but having worked for nearly two decades in the restaurant industry in NYC, I felt this experience was the opposite of elementary hospitality.

I recently had my first experience trying Taiwanese food, and it was absolutely amazing! I decided to go with the beef stewed noodle soup, which was rich and flavorful. The broth was perfectly seasoned, and the noodles had just the right texture, making it a comforting dish that I couldn’t get enough of. To compliment my meal, I ordered a refreshing passion fruit green tea with boba.
I was so impressed with the food and overall experience that I couldn’t resist coming back for a second visit to indulge in more delicious dishes. I’m definitely looking forward to exploring more Taiwanese dishes in the future!

I lived in Taiwan for several years and this place has super authentic Taiwanese street food and other typical dishes. A lot of this is hard to find in restaurants in the US, and I was so excited by the menu here! There were lots of vegetarian options, and everything was delicious and well presented. The server was very helpful and friendly. I wish I lived a lot closer than 2 hours away so I could go all the time!

This is my new favorite place in Northampton. A sizeable portion of fresh hot & sour soup for $4? Yes please! The filling for my steamed vegetable dumpling was fresh and delightful. My partner’s chicken egg curry fried rice was to die for. And the Thai tea and jasmine boba tasted amazing, not to mention the tapioca pearls were the perfect texture. I can’t wait to sample more of the menu!

Excellent and outstanding Taiwanese cuisine. Restaurant super clean and comfortable. Super helpful customer service. Menu has many diverse choices. I had the beef and red bell pepper fried rice and it was off the chart delicious. I also had the vegetable spring rolls for an appetizer and they also were fresh and delicious. The iced passion fruit green iced tea I had with my meal was also delicious and refreshing. If you visit Northampton in the Bay State you absolutely must visit T. Root for the best Taiwanese cuisine you will ever find anywhere. Super highly recommended.

T. Roots is a Taiwanese restaurant in the heart of Northampton, with a very minimalistic interior but modern design.

The food is delicious, the noodle soups and appetizers are all really good and come in good portions for the price. I ate the spicy beef dry noodle and it was excellent, not too spicy but still packed a bit of a kick for people. The appetizers I highly recommend, as they pair well with the dishes.

However, I had a bit of a difficult time with the service here. We came as a Party of 5, but they only had a booth for 4 people, which could fit 5. However, the server refused to let us sit at the table as a party of 5, even though there were others there doing what we were doing. Eventually they relented and let us sit down, but gave us a bit of attitude throughout the night. Overall this didn’t ruin the experience, but was a bit eyebrow-raising to me.

Overall its a good place to go eat though, and highly recommend it.

Came here on halloween, understand that its busy and all that. The food itself was the most mid, tasteless food I’ve had so far in Northampton. I feel like if you ever experienced the most basic decent asian food from literally anywhere else it would be better. I got Tofu/Veggie curry and it was watered down with no flavor or taste at all. A scallion pancake that took even longer to come out than the main dishes, and a noodle bowl chicken dish, but it ended up coming out wrong with the wrong noodles and the girl acted like she would take it to fix, but ended up just leaving it because no one was attentive to the table. I think if youve maybe never had asian food before this place might be good, and thats what I heard according to the people next to us aswell lol.

Excellent Taiwanese food! My recs: tofu salad, scallion pancakes and the sweet steamed buns to start. My absolute favorite entree is the ma la bean curd chefs special, but honestly it’s hard to go wrong. They have an extensive menu, something for everyone.
