My review is based only on the Lao dishes. I get excited anytime a restaurant serves Lao food because it’s not as common as Thai, so when I saw actual Lao items on the menu, I had to try them. The setup is like Newk’s — you order and pay first, then they bring the food to your table.
We ordered the marinated steak rare (it comes with sticky rice and Jeo Som). For $18.99, the portion was pretty small, and the meat was mostly well-done with a few pieces cooked maybe medium at best. It also didn’t come with Jeo Som — they served it with the roasted tomato sauce instead. If I had known that, I wouldn’t have ordered it.
I also ordered the Lao spicy sausage with sticky rice and the roasted tomato sauce. The sausage was a bit dry. We tried the crispy pork riblets and the duck fat fried rice — they were okay, nothing special.
The biggest disappointment was the Kao Piak Sen. It came out with rice noodles, not udon noodles that make it Kao Piak Sen, so it wasn’t the dish at all.
For the price, the food just wasn’t worth it, and it definitely wasn’t authentic Lao food. If they were out of something, they should have told us prior to substituting, although we don’t know if that was the case or not. Pretty disappointing overall.

I’ve ordered to-go salt & pepper squid and chicken popstickers. The squid doesn’t have any salt in it, it was bland and tasted like I’m chewing something rubbery. Looks like they forgot to add salt in it. Popstickers tastes okay. Food looks good but tastes ok.

It was my first time here, so I tried my Thai food staples: pad thai and tom yum with a side of jasmine rice. It was yummy and fresh. Just what I needed. Service was quick, attentive, and warm, which was good coz we were just on a short lunch break. Will surely be back to try their other dishes.

Absolutely awesome staff, very nice and attentive. I got the pork pad thai and it was delicious! The Thai tea was also delightful. Salt and pepper squid was great too. Would recommend

Just discovered this place and it’s lovely! The young lady at the front was incredible with all customers, and the atmosphere is a mix of cafe and restaurant style (which is great for people who eat alone or with others). It is clean, in a great location and the portions are amazing! Will absolutely be returning. 5/5.

I have been coming to this location since 2023. I have tried all the other Sweet Rice but nothing compares to this location on Mockingbird. The food is really good also, the service is as great. I have came during busy hours especially around lunchtime but the best timing is dining the atmosphere is more laid-back.

Decent place to grab a bite of Thai food. It’s not anything special though. The restaurant is set up like a fast casual kind of place. I got the Thai basil chicken, and some pork skewers. The Thai basil came out pretty good however, the pork skewers were inedible – they were very tough. I’d consider coming back for a lunch or a small meal, but definitely not for anything special given the high price.

I ordered a dinner portion of pad Thai combination and price came out to be $20. Food was really flavorful and food came out quick and hot but portion size is really small in comparison to the many other Thai places. I’ve actually had bigger portions at more affordable prices before so I was somewhat disappointed.

Sweet Rice had an amazing atmosphere from the moment we walked in. The open windows allowed the sunlight to come in and made the area very spacious showing how clean it was. There was ample seating with plenty of space. We were greeted with smiles and presented with the menu. They have various options including vegan and I ended up going with the Lao Heavenly Beef Jerky as an appetizer. It was brought out promptly and looked and smelled delicious. The presentation was nice, and neat and tasted even better. The only downside was that it was greasy, which I do not expect in my jerky. I then followed that up with the Lao Spicy Sausage. Now I cannot say anything bad about this dish. The homemade sausage had a juicy bite and was flavored with hints of rosemary and lemon garlic. It wasn’t as spicy as I thought it should have been but it was still very good. The prices are average for a restaurant around this area starting at two dollars for drinks and up to fifteen dollars for an entree. I recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again.
