The brisket sandwich was enjoyable. It wasn’t the best I have ever had ( that honor goes to the BBQ spots in Lockhart Texas), but pretty legit by Jersey standards.

Mac and cheese was better than average

I haven’t had cheerwine soda in years so it was nice to see in stock locally.

Staff was friendly.

All in all I wouldn’t go far out of my way to go here, but definitely good enough to go back.

First time ordering tonight. The ribs weren’t fall off the bone, but that and the chicken were good. Staff was friendly and personable. The brisket was overly salty. Sides were delicious. That being said, I ordered and paid for a full rack of ribs and only got a slab of 6-7. When I called, happy to take an IOU, a staff member was very nice and apologetic- NBD, it happens! I told them my husband opened the box and told me that he only had a half rack. I stated how many we got and the manager got on and said multiple times how “weird” this was because I’m the only one who ordered a full rack and she remembers my order and she asked her staff and they think it’s also weird. Her tone and statements heavily Insinuated that I was lying. I’ve been a food service worker and eventually management for over 20 years and didn’t appreciate how they handled this… sadly contemplating not ordering again on principle.

Worst BBQ meal we EVER had. First of all, we asked ourselves $47 for what? Two slider-size pulled pork sandwiches with a thimble size of coleslaw. There were some – just OK – French fries and some cornbread that we paid extra for. The pulled pork sandwiches were tiny and the meat was tough, hard and as dry as the desert. There was hardly any barbecue sauce on them. We won’t be back.

Food here is always hot and fresh. The meats are smoked in house and the sides are made from scratch. They have Cheerwine by case, by the can and on tap. I always have a very satisfying meal here, time and time again, no matter what I order. Definitely try this hidden gem!

We recently had Sweet Carolina Barbecue Company cater our son’s graduation party, and I usually don’t take the time to write reviews — but this meal absolutely deserves one! Everything we ordered was beyond delicious. The pulled pork, BBQ chicken, and brisket were tender, flavorful, and a huge hit with our guests. The hush puppies were perfectly crisp, and the chicken fingers were great— even the adults couldn’t resist them!

From the generous portions to the quality of the food, we were so impressed. Sweet Carolina made our celebration even more special, and we wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. Highly recommend for any event!

First time I went to a restaurant with high expectations and they were met. I had the Chopped Brisket with Onion Rings and Mac & Cheese. I ordered the hush puppies and they brought me back to the vacations I spent on the Outer Banks. The biggest thing is they carry Cheerwine, which is a cherry soda that was started in 1917 in Salisbury, NC.

Highly recommend. Will order in the future whether its in the restaurant or pick up.

When Sweet Carolina’s opened, we took a chance and ordered catering for a NYE party. The food was amazing and still is a few years later. Just had lunch there last week. The restaurant is clean, the staff is pleasant and Suzanne, the owner, is wonderful. I hope to see this restaurant and their food truck everywhere!

Wow this was bad. Maybe for northern Yankees who don’t know what Carolina BBQ is supposed to taste like, this is considered good but for anyone who spent any time living in the South, this was not good.
Who uses spiral noodles for their Mac and cheese and why did they use wall spackle for their cheese? Ain’t no one’s mama in Moore County ever made Mac and Cheese that looked like that.
I get it, Carolina BBQ is vinegar based but come on, the key to life is moderation. The vinegar was overpowering and distracted from the meat.
Now to the meat, I’ve never had BBQ that tough before. The tough meat combined with an overpowering vinegar made it rather unappealing.
Now to the one bright spot. The way I evaluate the quality of a REAL BBQ joint is how do they make their collards. Surprisingly they knocked it out of the park. I would put their collards up against some of the finest BBQ joints in NC, eastern Tennessee, northern Georgia, Virginia and West Virginia. Those collards were incredible.
The staff was friendly and the restaurant area had a decent vibe to it but someone especially their pit master needs to spend a few months living in Carolina to see what quality BBQ is supposed to taste like and learn how to make it that way.

Our first visit to Sweet Carolina Barbecue in Toms River (1839 Hooper Avenue, in the plaza with Red Rose Bakery and Philly Pretzel Factory. It’s across Hooper Avenue from Lenny’s Silverton Market.)

In the first pic, closest to the camera is their Chicken Filet sandwich, which is breaded chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a soft, toasted roll. It comes with fries and a pickle for $12. Very delicious. I did not add any mayo or BBQ sauce.
Second pic shows their Sweet Burger, super-thick, super-juicy (ordered medium rare), with onion rings, cheddar and BBQ sauce. With fries and a pickle for $14.

We added sides of mac & cheese and coleslaw, both of which were housemade. The flavor on the mac & cheese is very good. It’s not baked and has more of a ‘wet’ sauce. The coleslaw is a few steps above what you find in most places.

They also have Cheerwine soda, and have Zero Sugar in cans, and the regular version in cans or at the self-serve fountain. (Cheerwine is a brand associated with the South, and has a flavor that is very similar to Dr. Pepper, with a heavy cherry-forward flavor.)

You place your order at the counter, seat yourself, and the friendly staff brings everything out. Everything was clean, and the food was quickly, accurately prepared. Loved it a lot.
