Social Profile:

Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine has been in established since May of 2005. Our family moved from Pattaya Beach, Thailand to America in 1995 and landed in the Upstate of South Carolina in 1997. With dad’s love of cooking Thai food at home, mom’s decorative skills, and son’s experience in the service industry, Sweet Basil Thai cuisine was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 2005. We started the restaurant with a small 1200 square-feet space in the corner of Pelham Rd. and Highway 14 shopping center. In 2008, we have expanded into 2200 square feet with a renovation of a bar and beautiful Thai decorations. With the love of the restaurant business and our daily effort to perfect our culinary skills, we have become well known in the Greenville area.

My husband and I have been going to Sweet Basil for 5 years. It is a family establishment and you’ll be treated like family. The owners, Chin and Apple, are very good people with a passion for amazing Thai food. Their menu ranges from the more basic Thai food (pad Thai) to the more complex (pad kra paw basil Thai style). They have the best green tea in South Carolina.

The food was delicious. The service was great. They kept our cups full and the waitress was patient when we didn’t know what we wanted and had questions.

Food was good but would have been better if they got our order right. I said no mushrooms or baby carrots and my meal had both. When I spend $15 on lunch, my order should be right. It even said it on the container but I guess the cooks don’t read the lid on the box.

Honestly if I could leave less than 1 star I would…There are many words to describe the experience, however none are pleasant. I planned to dine at this restaurant just yesterday with some friends and my service dog which I am training for a veteran with PTSD (She is fully trained to sit quietly under a table), yet as soon as we entered we were pushed back outside to an unofficial outside dinning area the owner created last minute, which happened to be on the sidewalk in front of the building. Now I enjoy a good outside dining experience just as much as the next person but I enjoy it even more so when it is by choice as well as an everyday option. The owner of this establishment did not give us the choice simply because I had my service dog with me. He repeatedly questioned my friends about my disability and then demanded to see my dogs ID (Neither of these things are legal in South Carolina). According to the owner I was too young for a service dog plus I was neither blind nor in a wheelchair. I found the entire experience utterly disgusting so my friends and I decided rather than spend our money at such an establishment we would just leave and find somewhere better. We proceeded to walk to our cars and the owner came out of the restaurant asking us why we were leaving. We told him respectfully that we would rather take our business elsewhere to which he began following us to our cars and telling us he didn’t want people with such bad attitudes eating at his restaurant anyways. He then took pictures of our license plates for whatever reason he deemed fit and proceeded to walk back inside. Overall, the experience was horrible and I definitely won’t ever eat here. I’m simply glad that I myself am just a service dog trainer/raiser and not someone who has an unseen but very real disability, because I can only imagine the type of anxiety and stress this situation would cause. The ADA specifically says that all service animals in SC are allowed to accompany their handler in any public establishment as long as the dog is well trained and controlled (which my dog is) yet the owner of this establishment directly discriminated against me and my dog because he was unable to see a physical disability .

Food was delicious even though they brought me an entree I didn’t order (I ordered shrimp Amanda and they brought me chicken Amanda; I ate it anyway) and we were rushed to pay before they closed. Our fault since we didn’t arrive until 40 minutes before closing.

Ordered Panang curry, pad Thai, and chicken satay. Meat was rubbery and did not taste good.

Our of town for the day on a work trip. Decided to check out this local Thai restaurant. Service was very good and the food was great. Had videos of someone cutting fruit and veggies and making them into decorations which gave us something to chat about. Over all very good experience. Only problem was getting in and out of the parking lot. We’ll definitely be by this place again.
