We had a great Saturday night dinner. I LOVED the birra tacos- it was one of their offered specials. The guacamole and chips were also very good as was my mojito.
I’ve not been here before- my daughter has. It’s a great neighborhood restaurant. Great service. It was a little loud, but manageable. Will certainly be back.

The food was amazing and well cooked! The chimichanga was cooked to perfection. The kids meal chicken tenders are good and my son enjoyed the french fries. Would absolutely reccomend this restaurant.

Our party of four had a nice Sunday-night dinner preceded by a big bowl of tasty guacamole, chips, and salsa. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas. Our tablemates are frequent patrons of Sweet Agave, recognized by the wait staff.
All four of us enjoyed our meals. I would have preferred a slight bit of additional cooking on my chili relleno, but my pork enchilada was perfect. I found the margarita lacking a bit in flavor, in need of a bit more lime and triple sec, I believe.
I would definitely return to Sweet Agave when in the neighborhood and try sampling some other items on the menu.

Oh boy! This tex-Mex spot is a winner! Always great food, always generous portions, always friendly and attentive staff. Admittedly we take out more than we eat in, and that’s a great experience too. But it’s all about the food, right? My “bellweather” item for any Mexican place is the Chili Relleno. First, do they make them at all? Many don’t. Second, do they know what a real Relleno should be like? OMG, so many disappointing places just ruin the poor Chili… soggy, no good filling, old Chilis… even had some baked with no batter! Wha? But you name it, I have had some awful Rellenos. Not here. These are always fabulous, authentic, with a near perfect batter, fried up just right. The Poblanos (yes, some places try to get away with using lesser peppers) are always fresh, cooked with that perfect crunch yet filled with deliciously melted cheese! They don’t smother the pepper with some ubiquitous, unidentifiable sauce either. They are great. You can order them on the side, too, and I always order an extra one, they are that good!
So for me, if a place can make a good Relleno, everything else is likely great too. And it is!

Sweet Agave is one of the best kept secrets in Washington DC. It delivers on all levels and it has very tasty Mexican food. The people are wonderful. The service is super. You don’t find this very easily, especially in Washington so, highly recommended as much as I hate to see the place crowded I like it exactly how it is !right now, but they really deserve it.

All of the 5-star reviews are accurate. The complimentary corn chips are served warm with a notable salsa— thick and smoky. Outstanding margaritas, plantains and Mexican corn. Excellent shrimp entree, very good enchiladas— the spinach is a star!— made excellent with the addition of the spicy green salsa (ask and it will be cheerfully supplied.) Both vegetarians and carnivores can eat well here.
Definitely worth a visit if you are in Upper NW DC and environs!

The food and drinks at Sweet Agave were genuinely good, but I became concerned after noticing something troubling on the receipt when I got home: the “15% / 18% / 20% / 30%” “tip suggestions” were calculated on the *post*-tax total instead of the pre-tax subtotal, which quietly inflates every tip by about 10% (so a ‘20%’ tip is really 22%). That’s not standard practice. The reasonable consumer knows not to tip on the grand total that includes tax already. And it wasn’t disclosed anywhere, which is especially concerning because it takes advantage of customers who, again, reasonably assume tip suggestions are based on the subtotal. I tipped based on their 20% recommendation, but now I’m left wondering whether the server actually received a true 20% of the food bill or whether the restaurant pockets the extra 2% created by this math. Even if it’s only a couple extra dollars added (that patrons don’t know are added), it’s ethically objectionable and makes me feel distrust towards this place. Very shady.

Service was excellent. The food isn’t bad either. I need to give them a try because I got something out of the ordinary. If you end up getting fries like I did, they’re terrific. A chimichanga is next on my list. It’s definitely worth the stop.

The Owner/Bartender is such an amazing person, everyone is welcome. Food is amazing doesn’t matter what you order, just ORDER IT!!
I had a drink request and it didn’t matter she made it with a smile on her face, had no idea what it was but she did it! And it was awesome.
I only come here once a month but plan on going more often, such a perfect atmosphere. If I could if give 10 million stars!!

Nice restaurant with good food and great staff. We had an early diner and were on time for happy hour. It’s family friendly. The ambience is very stereotypically but still nice. Definitely going there again.
