I spent several months in Story City while I was working with a home builder in Ames. I frequented swannies several times a week while I was there and was always treated so nicely by not just the bartenders but the local patrons as well!
September 19th, 2023, was the one year anniversary of my father’s passing.
I had his hat sitting on the bar in front of me, and someone asked the bartender what does significance of that hat was, because I was already wearing one myself. They asked me, and I told them the background story. Somebody offered to buy a beer in his honor, and when word spread, many different people stopped by to share their kind thoughts, cheered my father, and took a drink of his beer.
I think during the time I was there, there must have been three or four beers purchased by and shared by many! It was a very special night!

Me and my husband stopped there for a beer and to watch last of Iowa State game and left and forgot my purse the bar tender was very nice and friendly about seeing that I did forget my purse! Thanks to a great small town bar to keep my purse safe until I made it back to get it!! Forever greatfull!!

The regulars were welcoming, the pool table’s level, and the cues are straight. Bar owner is very kind and courteous. The kind of bar you walk into and everybody knows your name.
