Good Indian vegetarian food.
Tried all their dosas.
They are good but could give me potato filling for the price.
Chai / coffee is overpriced. It would help if they gave the oz of coffee for that price.
Masala soda is highly recommended.

After 5 days of travel to Maui and not having any luck there with getting Indian food, I had made up my mind to check out this place when we landed in Kona. This is in s food court – nothing fancy about the ambiance. But it had decent South Indian food and that is exactly a vegetarian like me would seek. I ordered a plain dosa with extra ghee to eat there. Sambar and chutney were good. I did a take out for Pongal and vegetable Biriyani. Pongal was good but could be better with more ghee. I would not get the veg Biriyani – Instead the sambar rice I saw someone else getting there looked yummy. Curd rice is also a tempting option. Definitely recommend this place if you are craving South Indian and don’t mind a meal with no meat.

This was our 5th time dining here, spanning 3 visits to Kona. The fresh dosa and uthappam were delicious, just like we remembered. The chutneys and sambhar were flavorful — fresh and tasty!
The restaurant is now primarily managed by Chris, who is doing an incredible job as both the chef and the front desk caretaker. You can tell he’s really hardworking and customer-friendly, always making sure you feel welcomed. He’s really holding the place together, but it’s clear he could use a bit of help during peak hours to keep things running smoothly.
One thing to note: the menu has been pared down compared to our visits in previous years.
Overall, a great spot for some authentic dosas and more!

I had a great experience at Swami’s Dosa Grill! The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The dosa was perfectly crispy and packed with delicious fillings, and the chutneys and sambar really brought everything together. The menu has a lot of authentic South Indian options that you don’t always find at other Indian restaurants in the area. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. If you’re looking for something different or want to try real South Indian cuisine, this place is definitely worth checking out. I’ll definitely be coming back!

A delight for Vegans and Vegetarians. Typical South Indian cuisine. Sambar was perfect. Dosas variety is there.
It’s Hawaii and pricey but food is worth it for sure.
Very friendly and personal service.

It is behind 76 gas station in a food court. After ordering from self ordering kiosk, food arrived fairly quickly. I only saw one person working. I am assuming that is swami who is owner and chef of this restaurant.
Food was very good. I ordered masala dosa, cheese dosa and vegetable dosa. Also, samosas, Masala lemonade and masala Pepsi. Considering big island doesn’t have lot of Indian restaurants, this place serves best food. Opens at 11:30am-3pm and opens again at 5PM and closes at 8:30pm. Owner was very kind and offered complimentary water bottle and ice cream to little one in our party. Overall great experience and I highly recommend this place.
When I went around 5pm there weren’t many people but I am thinking you may have to wait if you went around dinner time during peak season. This should not deter you from trying out this place. I ate at this establishment when it was food truck few years ago. I remember food to be good even back then.

I agree it’s a mistake to try finding an Indian place on a Hawaiian island. But that doesn’t mean the people/person running this place can scam their customers. We ordered Idly and Dosa, for those of you that don’t know, it’s a comfort food that most Indians crave while on a long vacation. The Idly we got was probably frozen and reheated before being served. They were ice cold. Chutneys were also out of frozen packs and ice cold. Charging $17 for 2 pieces of frozen idly with frozen chutney is a scam if you ask me. Dosa was like a piece of wood lol, $18 for that piece of wood is another scam. I hope this review helps someone with similar cravings as me make the right choice and not eat at this place. Please wait until you can get back to your home city to eat some decent comfort food.

Unexpectedly great south indian food in big island. The tomato chutney so good and spicy.

Only one person was working leading to slow orders despite there being many people waiting. The person working seemed to be angry like he didn’t want to be here even though he is most likely the owner and has been doing this for a while based on other reviews. The food was okay but not worth the wait and this guy forgot to give us our mango lassi.

We found this place as we were visiting big island for day. We ordered samosas, idli Vada combo, mysore masala dosa and filter coffee. The food arrived pretty quickly and everything was fresh and delicious. Loved the piping hot ghee coated idlis and crispy golden vada, crunchy samosas that reminded me of home. Mysore masala dosa was just perfect. Little low on salt in chutneys. Otherwise everything was impeccable. Kudos to the owner who has made an effort to promote Indian food on such a remote island.
