Fantastic spot in Kirkcudbright.
The chowder is outstanding—an absolute must‑order. The mackerel with mixed‑grain couscous was excellent, and the salmon with beetroot and goat’s cheese worked beautifully. The chicken with haggis fish cake was another winner, with greens cooked just right.
Portions are generous and seafood lovers will be very happy here. Easy to find, easy parking, and you can see the fishing boats from your table. Quiet when we arrived, completely full when we left—worth booking ahead.

Absolutely delight possibly the best Seafood supper we have ever had ..excellent Chef Murray & his team, delicious seafood food, menu selection outstanding & beautifully presented.
Atmosphere delightful & service spot on!
Cocktails .. exquisite & mouth watering!
Reasonably priced & I would recommend Lobster, my other guests recommend Sea Trout & Lemon Sole …straight from our local seas!

Fantastic late swally and scran stop. Everything was exceptional from welcome to restaurant, ordering, service and the food which is in a league of its own. Really had a fabulous time this afternoon, the bench mark is high and ambiance incredible. Local fresh sea produce, and local suppliers.

Just had an absolutely cracking meal at Swally n Scran, and I’m still reeling from how good it was! From start to finish, this place is a real catch.
The monkfish was simply great – cooked to perfection, firm, and flaky. But the real star of the show was the John Dory; it was truly sensational, an absolute treasure from the deep! And speaking of treasures, the portion sizes here are incredibly generous – you definitely won’t leave feeling like a small fry.
The service was also incredibly accommodating, making us feel right at home from the moment we swam in. The interior design creates a wonderful atmosphere, making it a brilliant spot to anchor down for a delicious meal.
If you’re looking for a place that’s swimming in flavour and fantastic service, look no further than Swally n Scran. Highly recommended!

We called here for lunch on the way to Gatehouse and drove back for dinner at the end of the week it was so good! You know when you’re on holiday in the med and they grill fresh fish in butter and herbs and you wish you could get it like that at home? You can, in Swally and Scran! Highly recommended the catch of the day, chowder and smoked mackerel pate as well as their signature scallops, huge and sweet. There looked to be decent meat and veg options for non fish eaters and the desserts were also good. Also the best chips I’ve had in years! Great atmosphere, lovely staff and reasonable prices. Perfect!

Where do you begin ?? The restaurant is so stylish the bathrooms I couldn’t believe the fish scale like bathroom tiles and the wallpaper !
Now the food it’s amazing portions are perfect , such quality and so beautifully cooked . I had smoked salmon with oatcakes the oatcakes were as amazing as the salmon and I asked the waitress where they were from she said she made them. All the staff were perfect so attentive but not hanging over you .
The lemon sole fillets were truly special and my dessert again from a local supplier. Everything was perfect suffice to say we booked for Thursday evening !
Who ever is behind this venture is to be applauded . Can I please ask you to open another restaurant in Portpatrick ?? We so need a beautiful restaurant , reasonable prices, honest food and amazing staff !

Service friendly and efficient and you can see your chefs prepping the food.
Best seafood experience in many a year. Not the largest of menus but something for everyone. My choice of monkfish was cooked to perfection and the bean and chorizo was warming and comforting on what was a very cold day.
