Last night I surprised my wife with a trip to probably one of the only sushi restaurants we have yet to try and made it a double date with our good friends. Glad we made a reservation because they were packed. We ordered the edamame and baked mussels for the table. Our friends ordered the brussell sprouts. They were excellent. Thats about where it stopped. We ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi entree but I meant to say steak and shrimp. My fault. But either way there was no wow factor. It tasted like joy of Tokyo. My wife had mentioned there was a sushi special and asked the waitress what it was. She told us it was a tuna sushi roll with crab salad and some other things and it sounded good. We also wanted to get the scallop special roll from the week prior since they still had the specials menu from the previous week. Well she wrote down the other roll that did NOT have scallops on it. We thought the roll that had the tuna was the scallops roll because of the color. Come to find out when I asked the waitress it was tuna toro which is a very fatty tuna. We were not told this and definitely wouldnt have ordered it. We had to take the tuna off to eat the few we ate. The other roll that was supposed to be the scallops was the wrong one. We addressed this to the waitress who then at the time saw what the confusion was and told us we wanted the scallops roll and she wrote down the other roll and she took responsibility for it. $44 for these two rolls which came out to a $115 bill. I do think because it was the waitresses fault for giving us the wrong roll, one of them should have been taken off. Anyway the owner or the manager came over after we paid and she asked about the situation and asked us if we wanted the correct roll. By then we were paid up and ready to just leave so we politely declined. Our friends however enjoyed their rolls.
volcano – packs a punch of flavor and spicy – the best of the 3 -7.7/10
swamp rabbit – standard taste, good, big cream cheese flavor 5/10
gamecock – topped with mango gives a good sweet flavor, “caviar” on top added a nice crunch to break up the textures 6.5/10
Overall restaurant experience for our friends 7/10

Absolutely outstanding experience at Sushi Yama! The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Every roll we tried was top quality, and you can tell they take pride in their ingredients and preparation.
The service was just as impressive — friendly, attentive, and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was clean, relaxed, and perfect for a great meal whether you’re dining with family or on a date night.
If you’re looking for consistently delicious sushi and excellent service, Sushi Yama is the place to go. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Service was amazing, the host was super attentive as well, and the restaurant itself is very inviting. The parking could be better designated, but it’s “downtown.”
The food is above par for their sushi/ hibachi, but just a few tweaks more and some more emphasis in the seasoning and it will be to die for. Their rolls Definitely deliver.
The are clean and attentive. My salmon was a little overcooked, but we had a great time, will be back.

We celebrated our daughter’s 6th birthday dinner at Sushi Yama, and it was an experience we’ll never forget! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and went out of their way to make the evening special.

The food was outstanding! We started with some crispy potstickers that were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The sushi rolls were incredible – the Volcano Roll, Furman Roll, Paris Mountain Roll, and Spicy Tuna Rolls, were all packed with fresh ingredients and skillfully prepared. The Spider Roll and Boston Roll were also amazing. The kids really enjoyed the Chicken Fried Rice, and it was clear that everyone felt at home.

We definitely wished we had ordered more of the Furman Roll and Volcano Roll, as they were absolutely delicious! Everything was fresh and perfect for all the rolls – you could taste the quality in every bite.

To make the night even more memorable, the restaurant brought out a delicious fried cheesecake for our birthday girl, which made her feel so special. When our 1-year-old daughter was getting a little upset, they kindly suggested an edamame appetizer to keep her happy, which was a thoughtful touch. It made all of the difference!

The staff was so accommodating, and all of the children felt right at home, creating such a warm and inviting atmosphere. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate our daughter’s big day.

Sushi Yama has earned our loyalty, and we’ll definitely be back. If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience with exceptional service, this is the place!

We dined here last year and decided to try it again. It was very rewarding. Again, parking isn’t the best, and you may have a slight walk to look forward to. We had reservations, which I highly recommend as we were there at peak lunch hour. We had a party of six that included two kids under 8 and were celebrating a birthday, too. It did take a few minutes for our waitress, but it was excellent service thereafter.

We ordered a variety of items. I had one of the specials, swordfish hibachi, which I’ve never seen anywhere else. I also ordered a Swamp Rabbit roll, which I should have been paying better attention to since I don’t care for cream cheese on my sushi rolls.

Everyone, including the 5 and 7 year old enjoyed their meals. We also celebrated our son-in-law’s birthday, which really turned into an event with fireworks. Another wonderful food adventure. Our server Madison was excellent too. Enjoy!

I have had several fantastic experiences dining here. The service was quick and kind. Waters and drinks were constantly and quickly refilled. They even gave a to go drink upon request. Only thing I thought was odd was that we needed to ask for the sauce that normally comes with hibachi. Maybe it was extra? Either way it should come with it especially since the fried rice doesn’t come with any vegetables or any other add ins.

Plenty of food options to choose from. We had the bang bang shrimp as a starter. I wouldn’t really recommend this if you want a normal bang bang shrimp. It’s sweet for a second and then has a spice kick that quickly goes away. I prefer more balance. I got the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi which I would highly recommend. Shrimp and meat were cooked to order and the fried rice and vegetables were great. I prefer a it a little more well done but I didn’t ask so no issue there.
My main concern with the food was the miso soup and side salad. Heavy on the dressing with huge chunks of iceberg, maybe ask for it on the side? I did not enjoy the soup either, I kept trying it thinking I would like it but it never hit.

The atmosphere was great with indoor and outdoor options. Clean tables and menus and it smelled good walking in. Music was a great touch too.

Overall, 4 stars and I will come back for the sushi eventually. Would recommend!

I’ve been here in the past and I have always thought the food was great! Today we went as a last minute decision and let me just say, it was incredible! Our server was so sweet and helpful! But the FOOD!? Listen, it may have been the pregnancy hormones, but I took one bite of my food and wanted to cry. Happy tears of course! I will be back!

Chef Ricky is amazing ! I did the Omakase, which anyone who is a true sushi lover should try here. He used most amazing, fresh ingredients and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Just as he said, there’s no way to explain the flavor, you just have to try it for yourself. I love uni and this was the best uni I’ve ever tried. Looking forward to the expansion next door as well!

Normally our local “go to” place for sushi. However a takeout order on Valentine’s Day order was disappointing.
– We ordered sushi rolls with brown rice online; after a 35-minute wait they were made with white rice.
– The hostess apologized and said they would be remade and ready in 20-25 minutes.
– 40 minutes later, all but one of the rolls were ready. After receiving the final roll a few minutes later, we brought the order home.
– We noticed 2 rolls were very, very small in diameter and the veggies not fresh. Two other rolls crumbled right away into a mound of rice and fish once we took the first end piece. We’ve ordered these rolls previously and noticed these differences right away.

This was so unlike our previous experiences with online orders from Sushi Yama over the last 3-4 years. In all fairness, they appeared quite busy with full dining room, people waiting outside and people picking-up orders. Mistakes happen. Hopefully this was an anomaly and future orders will return to the positive experiences we’ve enjoyed from Sushi Yama.
