Sushi Uesugi is tucked away in the back of Japan Village, and it’s honestly a 10/10 hidden gem. The setting is simple but charming, and the whole experience feels authentic and welcoming.
We ordered the deluxe set, which turned out to be incredible value. It even came with an unadvertised chawanmushi and miso soup, both delicious and clearly freshly prepared. The sushi itself was excellent and very fresh, with highlights including uni, ikura, and eel, which made the set feel especially indulgent.
The sake was also a great surprise — we got a bottle of nigori for about $10, which is hard to beat. The sake cups were beautiful too, adding a nice touch to the experience.
The chef and hostess were Japanese and incredibly kind, which added to the feeling of authenticity and hospitality. Overall, a wonderful meal and a great experience — I’d happily come back again.

Great donburi options as well as sushi sets, hand rolls, omakase courses, and sake. Great quiet atmosphere on a Wednesday night, tucked away and private. The miso soup was uncommonly good and the complimentary appetizer pudding was one of my favorite eats of the year. I ordered the chef’s choice chirashi and had a delightful rainbow of an eating experience. The eel was especially good and it isn’t something I usually go for. The skin-on trout was also a pleasant surprise, and boy do I love a nice big ladling of ikura any day. Looking forward to coming back. I may end up ordering the same thing. Hopefully I will branch out.

2025.04 omakase lunch special, excellent price and worth its value. Many places is $100 and up per person. I paid $100 for two with tips. Fresh and speechless. Good place to revisit.

LOVE this place! My boyfriend and I have been to a few omakase places in NYC but we both agreed this just became our favorite spot! The fish was high quality, price was very reasonable, but most impressive was the chef. He was so charming and chatted with everyone at the counter. It was obvious he loved his job and took great pride in his work. The vibe was laid back and fun, not stuffy at all compared to some of the other omakase places we’ve been to. We will definitely go back again!

Have been to many sushi places and this is the most authentic Japanese sushi I had! Fish are so fresh, so tasty with very tasty sushi rice with Japanese salt/ handmade wasabi/ Japanese soy sauce. The price is very reasonable for this quality. The chef is very professional and respectful. Just be aware that there are only ~ 10 seats and the restaurant closes 2:30-5:30. Arrive early!

I’ve been to at least 5 different omakase places but still impressed by this one. The chef was very professional and prepared everything in a proficient manner. The food tastes fresh. Especially the eel was with salt and pepper which i often had in a sweet sauce. Price is reasonable.

This place is pretty amazing. Price is great, fish is generously thick and not to mention fresh. The uni felt like a refreshing drink in summer day with subtle sweetness, almost persimmon-like. The crab was tender and fragrant. There was also a sushi with sweet ponzu jelly, it’s contrast easily made it my favorite of the day. Today, the sushi chef offered us Chawanmushi (Japanese steamed eggs) and it was incredibly umami and delicious. The friendly sushi chef is from Osaka Japan and seems interested in the good Japanese eats in the city, I’m sure he’d appreciate recs!

One of my all time favorite hidden omakase gems in Brooklyn! I can’t recommend this place enough. I’ve been going for years, and chef Nagai is one of the most personable and creative chefs Ive experienced in NYC. For the price, you can’t beat it ($75 for full 10 piece nigiri omakase including soup, chiwanmushi, and toro handroll) and chef Nagai is right there in Japan village getting the best access to the same fish all the other expensive places are getting. If you love the omakase experience, you can go wrong here!!
