Sushi Tama has been our go-to sushi restaurant in Tacoma for over 20 years! While it has a small dining room, the food is delicious and always made with care and attention to detail. It is always spotlessly clean and the service is excellent.

My first time here. Picked up 2 orders of teriyaki chicken, 1 Cali roll, 1 temp shrimp appetizer, $70 after tip. The chicken is dry and flavorless, only 4 shrimp and really small for the price. The Cali roll was good but only two pieces of ginger. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce on the chicken and got no sauce from what I could tell. I drove all the way back and they gave me two small cups that I should have gotten with a regular order. I had to ask for more and got a third cup. The kids working there are kind. Small servings for the price. Not sure how they have great ratings.

My friend and I came today and we’re immediately impressed by just how kind everybody was. Not only was the atmosphere incredible, but we were blown away with just how amazing the food was. Now I don’t respond well to unusual textures in food, which makes it hard for me to enjoy sushi, but the sushi here was so incredible, I continued to eat beyond what my weak stomach could handle. Regretfully, this lead to me throwing up, but the waitress was super nice and understanding of the situation and swiftly helped me clean up after my mess. I would 100% recommend to anyone.

This use to be a perfect little authentic sushi place, with a great Japanese chef and the only Japanese owned restaurant in Tacoma. We are so very sad and disappointed that even after 3 years, there are still no dining in option… We miss dining in every Friday and hanging out with Takeshi !

Just visiting the area for the day, found this spot on Google maps!!! We absolutely loved the tempura!! So fresh and delicious!! Shiso leaf sushi was really good too!!! No dine in service so we took our food to Point Defiance park and had a picnic by the water! Was so wonderful

Absolutely the best authentic Japanese restaurant in Tacoma. Recently lived in Japan for a few years and it is the same…yup, that authentic!! Sushi Tama was my Japanese mom’s favorite so that is good enough for me! The fish is ALWAYS fresh and the presentation is just like Japan; beautiful, even when it is takeout.

The food was amazing! We went with a friend who is from Japan. They said the food is on par with what you would typically find in Japan. The selection is great and I can’t wait to go back.

Excellent and very friendly service. The sushi was fresh and well crafted. Their udon noodles bowl was tasty and very hot. The meat was tender, noodles perfect texture, smooth broth, and crispy tempura. Good seasoning. A small informal environment worth going back to.

We paid $12 for a pathetically tiny soft shell crab. You basically charged us for that lemon in the photo. At least include 2 crabs if they are this small. It was also very dry. We had looked forward to trying a new place for my husband’s birthday but were very disappointed with such a high cost for meager, mediocre portions. We also ordered scallops which we did not receive. It was not the type of birthday dinner we expected.
