Delicious omakase in a vibrant neighborhood spot. Service was extremely graceful as my wife had to cancel last minute and then our remaining guest was not super adventurous and didn’t want omakase. They still allowed us to sit at the bar and came up with good options for my guest while I had the sushi and sashimi omakase. Technically they didn’t have to honor my reservation but they worked it out and I really appreciated it. The omakase was a lot of food. I enjoyed everything although I felt a bit embarrassed since my guest couldn’t believe I could eat so much! Chefs were good with explanations and the waitstaff was quick and efficient. If you’re looking for a classic sushi bar (and not the super exclusive speakeasy type omakase joint) this is a great choice.

The fish quality is amazing; everything is so fresh and every bite has an umami taste! Everything is imported freshly from Japan as well. The servers are very kind and attentive; your cup will never be empty! The dimly lit lights also give a fancy ambiance

High quality exports, especially fish. Exceptional and kind service. Staff greet you in Japanese and will kindly explain what’s on your plate. Everything feels like it melts in my mouth!

The sushi bar was fully booked, so I was seated at a table instead. Unfortunately, sitting at a table doesn’t offer quite the same experience as the sushi bar. The service was slow and inattentive, and I didn’t appreciate the manager’s dismissive attitude. While it’s not entirely the restaurant’s fault—I should have booked much earlier to secure a better spot—it was a hard lesson learned, and I may not return.

Went to celebrate my daughter’s big day with her! This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. Master Chef Ohyama is a true sushi artist, crafting sushi that is both stunning and delicious. We always opt for the sushi omakase at the counter so we can watch him work his magic. Service was warm and attentive. If I ever won the lottery, I’d be here every week without question!

Sushi Ryusei is a hidden gem and an underrated treasure among omakase sushi restaurants. It has quickly become one of my top favorites. The fish is impeccably fresh, prepared with simplicity and precision, allowing the natural flavors to shine. Every piece was an absolute delight. The pricing is incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity of sushi offered, making it an excellent value. I can’t wait to return for another unforgettable experience! LOVED! 🙂

Hands down, this was the best food I’ve had in Midtown — top tier from start to finish. The Spicy Tuna was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The Tatsuta Age was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a squeeze of lemon that brought the whole dish to life. The Salmon Yuzu Soy melted in my mouth — every bite was packed with rich, balanced flavor. The Chicken Teriyaki was also delicious, tender, and perfectly cooked.

And let’s talk about dessert — I’m not usually a big cheesecake fan, but the Yuzu Cheesecake completely won me over. Light, citrusy, and refreshing. The drink recommendations were spot on as well.

Haruki, the owner, personally greeted me when I walked in, which was such a warm touch. The service overall was excellent — the staff was polite, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.

I work nearby and can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this place sooner. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be back!

This small classy Japanese restaurant is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. It is actually run by Japanese staff and sushi chef with attentive service and manner. We had age dashi tofu, tempura udon, karaage chicken, miso clam soup and sushi, and they were absolutely delicious and authentic. The sushi, in particular, was my favorite…. the freshness of the fish enhanced by the sushi’s rice warm subtle sweetness They also have a pretty decent sake selection. This is now my go to Japanese restaurant in this neighborhood
