Notwithstanding these service-related observations, the sushi merits particular commendation. Notably, the establishment features compelling “buy one, get one free” sushi special on Thursdays, which I would recommend patrons consider. The “Flaming”, was noteworthy Sushi, with the inclusion of hot Cheetos providing a distinctive and enjoyable textural element and the duck buns are a good appetizer.
In conclusion, while the overall experience was positive, future visits might be best directed towards the bar area, potentially offering more expeditious service.
The apps was decent but that’s just the start
I ordered the lemongrass beef, but it was overwhelmingly sweet—closer to a dessert than a main dish. The sauce was thick and syrupy, completely overpowering any savory or lemongrass notes. I managed to eat the vegetables and beef, but couldn’t finish the rest.
The sushi was topped with steak, which arrived nearly raw. We asked if it could be cooked a bit more, and it came back almost immediately—burnt, including the rice….
Overall, the meal lacked everything good about a sushi / Asian restaurant. This was one of the most disappointing “Asian” cuisine experiences I’ve had in Durham. I wouldn’t recommend it.
the place was pretty clean it just seems a little outdated. Maybe recommend a renovation soon.
We started with cocktails, and they were exceptional. The pear and ginger tini was crisp and refreshing, the plum and guava cocktail was delightfully fruity without being too sweet, and the passion tini had a lovely tart finish. These alone made the visit worthwhile. The dumplings were also a standout—perfectly cooked, savory, and satisfying.
As for the sushi, it was good overall, though not all rolls were created equal. The lobster roll was a little bland and underwhelming, especially considering how rich lobster can be. The kiwi crab roll, on the other hand, was unexpected and absolutely delicious—a great balance of sweet and savory. The vegetable roll, featuring asparagus, was also very good and fresh-tasting.
The tempura was probably the weakest dish of the night. While the vegetables were cooked properly, the batter was too greasy, which weighed the dish down.
The biggest disappointment was the service. After we finished eating, we lingered over cocktails, but no one came to clear our table. Dirty dishes and trash remained, and our waters were never refilled. It felt like we were forgotten.
Despite that, I’d consider giving this place another try—the drinks and dumplings deserve it. Hopefully, with better service, the next visit will feel more polished.
We were sat quickly and greeted by our server quickly. He brought out waters within a minute of our seating. My friend ordered a plate, I ordered 2 sushi rolls and an app to share.
The wontons were amazing. Not your typical short-order fried wonton, there was actually crab visible and present in both bites for every wonton. And pretty apparent its not just a simple cream cheese and crab meat, they were quite tasty and worth getting. The wontons came out within 5-6 minutes, which gave us plenty of time to finish before lunch arrived.
My food (as pictured) was fantastic. Plating was even top notch, but all tasted fresh and we both were very satisfied.
I recommend against a booth seat. No matter the size of human sitting behind you, the booths are very cheap and flimsy. The slightest movement from the person being you will jolt you in your seat. I am ~245lb, and a ~120 female sitting behind me was moving me as I sat still. Not her fault! But very annoying and really took away from the experience. I recommend sitting at a regular table or the sushi bar.
It was also FREEZING inside the restaurant. Granted on this day the high was around 43° with gusts up to 20mph or so, but I felt only relief from the bitter wind by coming inside. My fingers felt frozen by the time we got done eating.
Our waiter was very mobile and aware, we had to ask for nothing. He was very efficient, so his service along with the quality of the food both outweighed being cold and being bounced around in the booth.
We will come back, definitely to the bar or a table though!
