I recently had the pleasure of visiting Sushi Japon & Hibachi Grill in Austin, and I was thoroughly impressed. I went on a light weekday afternoon, and the timing was absolutely perfect—it was a wonderful, relaxed experience with prompt service and a fantastic atmosphere. This restaurant truly offers the best of both worlds with a vibrant hibachi grill experience alongside a delicious and fresh sushi bar.
I highly recommend visiting during a weekday to enjoy a quieter meal, especially for lunch or an early dinner, before the evening rush.
The food was great across the board. The quality of the ingredients, from the perfectly seasoned hibachi entrees to the fresh, expertly prepared sushi, was noticeable. I enjoyed the perfectly cooked hibachi salmon and the beautifully presentations. The portion sizes were generous, and the overall value for the meal was excellent.

The food and hibachi grill were very entertaining. Met some great people there who were having a birthday party there with friends and they allowed us to join them. The staff was very attentive to our needs and it was fun with how they involved everyone at the grill with the entertainment.
I’ve been to a hibachi grill before and usually it was customary to call ahead and reserve seating for the grill to avoid having to wait. Every restaurant I’ve been to have this so it wasn’t an usual thing for me to do when finding a nice place to eat. When I called I was 25 min away driving into town and called to reserve two seats. I was told they had a 20 to 25 minute wait and thought that’s perfect timing and they said to go ahead and just walk in which I thought was perfect. We get there and then we were told there was now an hour to hour and a half wait because in the 22 minutes it took us to get there they became very busy.
Spoke with the manager and he explained they don’t do reservations for parties under 5 for the grill because it was first come first serve so they can avoid people making reservations then not show up. Well he was able to squeeze us into a table with a group celebrating a birthday. Even their group had one person who showed up a bit late and another who didn’t show up till the end and didn’t buy anything so it doesn’t matter if you have a party of two or party of five, you can still have empty seats that don’t make money.
It was unusual for an establishment to not allow reservations for two. Makes having a dinner date there with your significant other difficult so if you want to avoid the wait, either get there early or avoid it entirely.

Sushi Japon & Hibachi Grill was a great experience overall. I tried the spicy yellowtail, which was good, but it wasn’t my favorite. Something in the sauce made my tongue feel like I had eaten a handful of Warheads. I’m not sure if it was just very strong or if I might have been slightly sensitive to something in it, but it was definitely intense.
I also had the Sexy Lady Roll, which was good as well, though I felt like it was missing just a little something. It probably would have been great with soy sauce, but I skipped it since my tongue was already feeling pretty sensitive after the yellowtail.
Overall, I’d give it 4.5 stars. The food was still enjoyable, and I’d definitely come back to try different items if I’m ever in Austin again.

This is our second time going to a hibachi grill restaurant and the first thing we noticed was our table did not have a hood ventilation on top..so when he was cooking, all the smoke was blowing to us. Other tables along the wall has it, but the center table does not. And we are not sure if it was just our cook we got, but overall, he overcooked all our meat. My steak was very salty. My friend’s steak, lobster, and fish were all over cooked. The only item we agreed was good was the vegetable her stir fry.

Always have a great hibachi experience here! Had a birthday dinner and reservation. A few of our party were running late so we had to wait to be seated and once they arrived, we were given timely updates of when our table would be ready. The show was great and quick to cook all of our meals! Have been on weekend nights and during the week and both great experiences.

Worst sushi ive had in a long time. One roll tasted just like lemon and cilantro. Mango roll was also sub par. The meat was either unseasoned or in the spicy tuna too seasoned. Didn’t finish was too bad

We came to this place for Valentine’s Day first experience here in Austin and it was the worst experience for one I’m a true believer that atmosphere is set when you enter the building but the little girl at the desk was very rude and on top of that the guy at the table whom was our server didn’t enter act with the table didn’t know if it was people first time there are not I have been to Houston tx spot so many times and that’s why I fell for n love with this place but after the experience here in Austin I will never come back to the Austin tx location my first and last time ever because I was more into another table experience then mines because they serve was giving them a great experience. The only person that was good was the waitress sad but true ….

This hibachi restaurant is a great choice for a fun, family-friendly night out. The kids absolutely loved the show—lots of laughs and excitement at the grill—and it kept them entertained the whole time.
The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly right in front of us. The portions were generous, and everything came out hot and tasty.

We’ve been coming to Sushi Japon for around 6 years now as of this current review, we now even have a little one who has their first experience there today. Never had a bad experience, the staff all go above and beyond and if you have an issue they’re more than happy to fix it. Everything on the menu is adjustable, just request. The vibe is great, it’s cozy enough, and the sushi is just plain good. We actually moved away from Austin, but we still plan visits and incorporate coming here as often as possible. Lifetime enjoyer of sushi Japon.

We booked Marcelio for my friend Leslie’s 26th birthday, and he absolutely made the night. From the moment he started, the energy was perfect great vibe, super friendly, and such a fun personality.
His performance was insane. He juggled an egg with a spatula at least 10 times without dropping it and had everyone laughing, cheering, and recording. The food was delicious, the show was incredible, and he kept the whole party entertained from start to finish.
