You can gauge the overall quality of a Japanese restaurant based on its miso soup alone; miso soup is an extremely easy to make and high margin product for a restaurant that a low quality miso soup means that the restaurant most likely skimps on the quality of their other offerings.

The miso soup was heavily watered down – needed either more dashi and / or miso paste to bring it to an acceptable level.

I rarely have a good experience with ramen offerings at a sushi place and this was no exception. The “tonkotsu” ramen broth was anything but; it didn’t taste anything remotely that would be considered tonkotsu and the noodles looked like it came out of some western version of packaged ramen noodles.

The beef “teriyaki” lunch bento was awful. The “teriyaki” sauce tasted watered down and they would have been better off with the 99c bachan’s teriyaki sauce from Costco because this sauce was the worst I’ve ever consumed. I was struggling to taste the components of teriyaki in it. It didn’t even have the viscosity of teriyaki either and was this watery mess.

The dipping sauce for the potstickers was also some strange spiced anomaly; the sauce that we all know and love isn’t hard to make either – it’s 1:1 soy sauce and vinegar, and they should have just went with that.

The california roll included was ok.

It’s just overall I feel sad for the folks that live around here as this may be their only exposure to Japanese food and none of it represents anything that could be remotely considered decent.

They need to remove the dim sum and ramen options and focus on what they are – a sushi joint.

Went for an early dinner before an event and picked the location at random by walking by. Impressed with the various menu options. Ordered some happy hour apps, salads, and rolls. Also got the ginger root green tea and an old fashioned. Pleasantly surprised by the happy hour deals and the quality of the food. The ginger root tea was worth going back for alone.

I’ve been dinning at Sushi Hana on the Hill for the better part of 2 years, and I must admit that they’re a top notch restaurant. I’ve tried more then half the menu items but I’ve settled on a usual that has become a mantra of sorts when i order. The owners are amazing, the staffing is well trained and organized, and the food is wonderful quality. If you’re looking for a nice place for lunch or dinner, I’d highly recommend. It can get lively sense it’s next to the college, but that becomes a part of the charm.

P.S. I usual order the pork gyoza, perfect roll, rainbow roll, a Sapporo and sake.

Hands down one of the best sushi joints I’ve ever been to! I walked in with no idea what I wanted so I asked the chef to surprise me and I was IN HEAVEN!!! He made me this sushi taco tray that BLEW MY MIND! The shrimp dumplings were STUPENDOUS and their new cheese wontons are off the chain!
10/10 all day every day. The owners are amazing and so friendly, I felt like I was at home. Will most definitely be coming back. Hooooooly cow!!!

Great experience with our family. Japanese whiskey was lovely and a generous pour. Sashimi was fantastic and tea was also generous. Tempura and rolls were great too.

Honestly shocked at some of the poor reviews because I thought the portions were great for the price (especially in Boulder), the service was lovely even when busy with takeout orders, and the restaurant was clean and set a great scene.

We come for the lunch special and it is incredible value. $12 for 2 rolls and a miso, or $15 for 3 rolls and a miso is what we get. It is great sushi for a low price. The atmosphere at night/on the weekends is also very young/fun!

Im so glad we stumbled upon this sushi spot upon the hill in boulder. We ordered from a large selection of dishes from octupus to Japanese fried rice. One of my new favorites was the wagyu sushimi. Wasabi was just right, very flavorful and fresh. The atmosphere was alright, not very Japanese, but it’s in Boulder on the hill. What do you expect? Well, you can expect great safe food.

Overall really good restaurant. There’s very little to no wait time for a table, and the staff are always nice. I took my parents here when they were visiting and they loved how quick our food came out. Great price for such high quality food, would recommend.

The owners were so nice; one of my friends is gluten-free, and they were very good about communicating what foods had gluten and which didn’t. Also, they were very welcoming and friendly. I got one of their lunch boxes, and it was so good!
