Sushigaku is easily one of D.C.’s standout sushi spots. The fish is incredibly fresh, the nigiri is perfectly balanced, and the omakase experience feels thoughtful and refined. With its intimate atmosphere and meticulous attention to detail, Sushigaku delivers a high-quality, memorable dining experience that’s well worth it.

Sushi Gaku is easily one of the best sushi experiences in Washington, DC. The fish is incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and every dish feels thoughtfully crafted. You can really tell the chef takes pride in traditional Japanese techniques while still creating a fun and memorable dining experience.
The atmosphere is intimate and stylish, tucked away in Georgetown, which makes it feel like a hidden gem. The service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We especially loved the nigiri and specialty rolls — the balance of flavors was perfect.
If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality sushi in DC, Sushi Gaku is a must-visit. It’s the kind of place you go once and immediately start planning your next visit.
Highly recommend!

Went to sushi gaku for take out. It was good. A nice space tucked in the basement, but really well decorated. They have some garden seating that Is outside which is nice. The staff is super chill and cool. I would come back to dine inside because it has great vibes.

Went here for opening day and had a really nice time with friends! The staff was very excited to have us here and recommended drinks for us to try. We had miso soup, gyoza, crunchy spicy salmon, crunchy shrimp, and shrimp tempura avocado roll. The food was 10/10 + service and ambiance was amazing. Our new favorite spot to grab sushi in Georgetown.

Sushi Gaku is a cozy Georgetown gem that delivers fresh, well-prepared sushi in a relaxed setting. The fish tastes clean and high quality, and the rolls strike a nice balance between classic and creative. The space feels intimate and welcoming, making it great for date night or a casual dinner with friends. Service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. A solid go-to spot for dependable sushi in DC.

We opted for the $100 prix fixe.
Miso soup was tasty.
The tuna carpaccio was disappointing. The tuna had no taste and the ponzu overwhelmed the whole dish.
The nigiri tasting was pretty good, but we have had better esp at the price point.
1. Rice was prepared at the temperature, taste and texture we prefer
2. The fish and any seasoning pair was thoughtful. However, the variety was lacking.
Lastly, the dessert was a choice of mango or strawberry mochi ice cream. The taste was so artificial and it was terrible.
Service was friendly, however, slow, and somewhat inattentive. However, we were displeased with how they generalized so many kinds of fish as “white fish”. We are always eager to know the exact kind of fish, parts and origin, and Sushi Gaku failed so badly in this department. We had to ask and only for all 3 wait staff to come by with an incomplete/ inaccurate description of what fish we were being served.

The service, ambiance, food & drinks were incredible from start to finish!
We got a few different nigiri orders and rolls (salmon, fatty tuna) all incredible.
We just moved right around the corner, and we already can’t wait to come back!
Bonus points for Dua Lipa on the playlist 🙂

Sushi was okay. However, for the price point, I expected better service. It took almost 15 minutes from being seated to placing an order. The staff were friendly but if I’m paying $100+ per person, I shouldn’t have to raise my hand to get more water and get the check.

This sushi spot is a hidden gem! It’s very hidden and the staff are excellent. They’re so nice, and very hospitable. The food is good, but I have had better. Still, this place is an amazing sushi spot, and I would recommend it! I shall come again!
