Superica – The Battery Restaurant – Atlanta, GA – OpenTable
Reviews
I find the branch at Inman Park altogether preferable to that dreary outpost at the Battery, where the atmosphere is devoid of spirit. The lighting, too, is of such a flat and uninspiring character that is actively discouraging merriment.
Still, I persist, for there are worse fates than a plate of decent nachos and a rather questionable but not a bad drink.
I spent a bit over $120 after food, tax and tip. No alcoholic drinks bought.
The tortillas were so over cooked I just raked everything out of my tacos al carbon, the fajita steak was nice and the onions were amazing. They forgot my rice and beans somehow and it took a bit to finally get them after talking to 3 different waiters. Do not get the queso it’s extremely bland, no one at my table of four liked it. The Nachos a friend got looked amazing and he loved it. The other two got other things and they said it was meh.
I know we can be a bit picky since we are from Houston and have a ton of Mex and Tex-Mex places here but man I wish it was a little better. Everything needed more spice!
I loved my chicken tacos El carbon. The flour tortillas were soft and fresh, and the chicken was tender and flavorful. While the green sauce was a bit too spicy for me, that’s just a personal preference. My wife’s hard shell tacos were also delicious, but the real surprise was the rice and beans. She’s usually not a big fan of those sides, but Superica’s version was so good she cleaned her plate!
The teamwork among the staff was impressive. Everyone was checking on us, offering more chips and drinks, making us feel well taken care of. It’s clear they’re committed to providing a great dining experience. We’re heading back to the game tomorrow, and there’s a good chance we’ll be stopping by Superica again. It was that good!
– House salad with creamy oregano dressing. Surprisingly good, and was the best thing we ate other than the chips and salsa.
– Rice and beans came with each platter. For some reason mine was blended refried beans (which was decent) and yellow/spanish rice which had a good flavor but was too dry. The other platter came with black beans and white rice (which might have been a very weak version of cilantro-lime rice).
– Soft taco- Chicken Tinga. The chicken was cooked well, but the flavoring/ingredients were mostly bland.
– Soft taco- Picadillo (spicy ground beef). It was spicy ground beef, but it tasted like it had been sitting around in a pot for quite a while and then scooped into the taco with no other ingredients to make it interesting.
– Soft taco- Crispy avocado. Had the beginnings of a good taco but it wasn’t seasoned and and we didn’t see much/any of the tomato, lettuce and cheese promised in the menu description.
The restaurant was noisier than we expected for a weekday afternoon at half capacity. We didn’t expect a quiet atmosphere for the lively Tex-Mex vibe, but they seemed to turn up the music to offset the general noise.
Worst issue we had was the service. I hope it’s a case of not being able to get staff for the day after Christmas, but…. It started with having to wait to be seated in spite of being at half capacity. The host explained they had to clean tables after a large rush. We only waited for 5+ minutes inside, but we had spent another 7+ minutes outside the restaurant reading the menu and talking with friends. Nobody left the restaurant during this time, so it took them over 12 minutes to clear tables. Not a great start, but not terrible. After being seated, our first waitress came quickly with chips and salsas, but after that service went into slow tag-team mode, culminating in a 20+ minute wait for drink refills while we finished eating. We finally got our refills in to-go cups along with the check. We thought we must have had a cloak of invisibility the way we sat there with no service during most of our visit!
The visit definitely put a damper on the good mood we brought in after the tour!
