Shockingly good Mexican food for the Pacific Northwest!

Growing up in LA I fear I’m a bit jaded on Mexican cuisine because there are just so many good options to choose from there, but Super Torta did not disappoint.

Simple easy menu with all you could need. Made fresh tomatoes order and great salsas to boot!

The outside of the build was super unassuming but walk in and you can tell this is a special little restaurant, focusing its talents on the food.

The have a big parking lot so don’t worry about finding parking, and if you’re in a hurry no worry as the food came out fast.

Enjoyed every bite of my massive carne asada burrito

I didn’t really understand the mixed reviews and since I just moved into the neighborhood, I thought I would give it a shot. I went there today April 16, 2025 and ordered a pork chimichanga. The interior is what I would describe as kind of like a dive restaurant or equivalent. That’s not a turn off to me because some dive restaurants have the best food. It did take a little while to be acknowledged and for me to put my order in, but that was fine because they looked like they were busy in the back. I took my food home so I could go back to work and honestly, the pork was disgusting. Not only was it not seasoned whatsoever, but it kinda had a taste of freezer burn or something. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but it was literally gross and I don’t think I will ever go back.

Got myself a birria wet burrito…heaven. It’s SO good. It was $16, but worth the price in my opinion. Definitely check this place out!

The food was AWEFUL!!! I got the steak burrito and it had no flavor, the meat was tough and chewy. The cheese was like cheap government cheese. To make it worse the guy at the counter was VERY RUDE and the restaurant smelled musty!!! I also woke up the next morning with food poisoning. Stay away from this place!!!!

So, sweet tamales are my new obsession and Super Torta is one of the few places in town I’ve been able to find them. It’s somewhat hidden on the menu, too—but they are listed at the end of the tamale options.

The sweet tamales have masa flavored with fruit and pineapple chunks inside. Not overly sweet—more like a pastry than a dessert or cake. Very unique and delightful!

The other tamales are well made and tasty, as well. The masa has great texture and the tamales are large. 🙂

Super Torta is a Super Disappointment
Let’s be brutally honest. Super Torta is an experience best avoided. From the moment you step into the stark, almost aggressively bare dining room, you know you’re in for a rough ride. The decor screams “budget motel breakfast nook,” and not in a charming, quirky way.
The prices, shockingly, do not reflect the quality of the establishment. You’d expect gourmet cuisine for the exorbitant costs, but what you get is closer to a sad, reheated TV dinner. The food lacks any semblance of seasoning, leaving you with a bland, uninspired mess. Each bite was a testament to how little effort went into its creation.
Adding insult to injury is the truly abysmal customer service. The staff seemed disinterested and bordering on rude, contributing to the overall unpleasant atmosphere. It felt like they were doing you a favor by taking your order.
In summary, Super Torta is a masterclass in how to ruin a dining experience. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, or even just edible food, look elsewhere. Save your money and your taste buds. You’d be better off microwaving a frozen burrito at home.

Sadly today was it, after not stopping for a year, the food was far worse than last time. I can forgive the bad attitude from the counter dude as he has been there forever but the food was really bad. First was the flavor of scorched rice, yuck. Far worse was a sour bite 2/3 into the burrito, not sour tart, old sponge sour. Round canned the remainder and made a promise to myself – never going back.

The southeast Portland Woodstock neighborhood institution.
Solid basic Mexican food. Good service, friendly staff who have been there for as long as I can remember.
My go to place for Mexican comfort food for more than 15 years. The burritos are massive!

Possibly the best Mexican place around here. Their serving sizes are huge, beef is delicious and chicken is good. Their street tacos are bigger than some places burritos

Steak piano was more like beef jerky. Quite dried out then quickly reheated on a grill and thrown into a burrito. If I had been closer I would have returned it and asked for money back.
