Review:
I’ve been eating at this particular bakery for over 30 years and like the food and pricing is fair.
My chief complaint is that the service is very slow, the lines are almost always 4-10 people long and in my last 5 visits, I’ve only gotten food 1 time. (1 person in line at the time and it still took 10 minutes to be served).
All other occasions I would go and usually only have 20 minutes to get food before work or an appointment and I would leave empty handed because I would be late if I stayed, typically having waited 10+ minutes each time.
I really want to like the bakery of my childhood but it doesn’t respect my time. Why should I allocate 20-30 minutes of my time to buy croquetas and a cafe con Leche.
They have 3-5 workers behind the counter so it’s feels like there should be more efficiency. I understand there are meal orders like press sandwiches that take time, but that isn’t every single order, right?
This marks the fourth time I’ve bought their pastries. Each time, they have tasted stale and expired. I ordered a flan, and it had a rotten egg flavor. When I returned it, one of the associates never apologized or asked if I would like a refund.
She even went as far as to smell it, almost tasting it, and said she didn’t know. I never anticipated her to realize it wasn’t good, and that it had a sour flavor. She inquired if I wanted something else. She offered me a tres leches, which was dreadful. The tres leches was also old.
The very first time I visited, I bought a four-layer cake, and it was terrible. After leaving, I purchased two yuca rellenos and a spinach empanada, and that was awful too.”cold and salty”
In all fairness; I don’t think I’ll return again. Honestly, the only item I would consider buying there is a café con leche.
PS To be honest, I really don’t understand how you receive positive reviews for your cakes. Your cakes are terrible. They have an unpleasant taste. They are stale. They appear as if they have been stored in the refrigerator for an extended period, and the refrigerator’s temperature is not suitable for keeping them fresh, indicating something is off. Perhaps the freshly made food is decent, but the empanadas, croquetas, and yuca relleno are all cold and stale.
I ordered some beef empanadas, guava puff pastry with and without cheese, tiramisu cake, ham croquettes, etc. Unfortunately, tiramisu has no espresso flavor and the cake was dry. The guava puff pastry was over-baked, not fluffy enough. Chicharron skin was too hard to bite, not crunchy. I’m disappointed. Everything definitely look better than its taste.
The prices are great, the coffee is great, the food is great, and the ladies behind the counter are great. Not much more you can ask for
