We favor Mediterranean food, so we’ve tried most all of them within 45 minutes of our home, and I can say, without reservation, Sunset Bistro has the best Chicken Shawarma and Lentil Soup…period. Not that there aren’t others that are good, but the consistency and quality at Sunset Bistro is outstanding. The wait staff is always helpful and efficient. Just a good, unassuming, casual place to visit. Lots of other good stuff on the menu as well.

Walleye on Fridays! I’m from the Midwest and really missed a good walleye dinner. But not anymore! This is the place to get my walleye fix! Perfect amount of breading, not too much or too little. Great baked potato and coleslaw too. It’s very small inside. Friendly service. Alcohol is available, including mixed drinks and tap beer. I’ve also dined here on other days throughout the week and have enjoyed the gyros and chicken shawarma – if you get the shawarma, expect to bring home leftovers, which are great the next day if reheated stovetop! Updated with a picture of the chicken feta strawberry salad, served with raspberry vinaigrette, so good!!

Stopped by on a Sunday evening. One friendly waitress was working and were greeted when we walked in, told to choose a table. Received menus shortly after and our orders were taken. Salad arrived soon after followed by our meals. Food that should have been hot was. All in all a pleasant experience and will be back. Sorry it has taken us a year since moving to the area to try it.

Update May 2025: I like that they have specials each day, so I went on Liver and Onions Night. Hadn’t had that in a long time and it was tasty especially since it had bacon strips as a topper (see pic). Next time I’ll get the side salad instead though since the vegetables seemed to be those medleys from the frozen foods section but their side salads were always on target.
This is an update based on an Oct. 2023 visit which involved food I hadn’t tried before. Our server was attentive and didn’t even flinch when I had to call her back since I decided I wanted the Greek side salad rather than the house salad since I really like the olives. My friend’s tortilla salad looked very appealing and he finished up every crisp bit of the edible tortilla bowl–he didn’t want the meat that came with it as he’s a vegetarian so they gave extra veggies instead which was a nice accommodation. It was MX night and the special was the ribs which came with rice, refried beans topped with cheese, and tortilla chips and salsa: I had to lick my fingers from the zippy but not overly so sauce that covered the succulent ribs that slid off the bone. The chicken shawarma, rice, and vegetables were as tasty as always. I prefer sitting outside than in the close quarters inside, but we came early and it wasn’t completely crammed so it was cozy and pleasant. They have daily specials and they are themed like MX or Italian, but you’ll never know what they will be unless you call or read the chalkboard first, but they are creative and a good deal. Remember to round out your meal with some beer, mostly bottled, but some on tap, or wine.

Schnitzel! Spaetzle! And potato pancakes, mushroom cream sauce, and applesauce. It’s German night at Sunset Bistro and things couldn’t be better. The first time I went for it a couple of months ago, they didn’t serve applesauce and the spaetzle was waterlogged; however, this time the applesauce was there and the spaetzle was lightly pan finished in butter. And look at the size of the Jager Schnitzel! Amber Bock on tap added to the experience and you can dine in or out on the little patio (but since it is a small area with walls on 2 sides, if there are smokers out there your al fresco experience will be marred by stagnant smoke). Caution: German Night is only on Tuesdays, so plan ahead. It’s also not well advertised so we had to ask for the special menu and they didn’t have beef rolladin since server said they had too much left over the last time they made it–well geez, tell people it’s German Night and hand them the menu so they’ll know what’s available! Put the info on the chalkboard and talk up this special night: it’s something to be proud of!

Below is my older review which was for a totally different meal–wanted to put the above separately but seems they only allow updates. Anyway, the fish meal experience was a 3 Star experience compared to German Night’s 5 Star :
The walleye was succulent within its light battered crust, although at $2.50 more than the cod, it could have been larger, and I’ve had the cod before and liked it as much, I’d probably go cod again next time since once you deep fry a white fish, it’s hard to tell much difference. Fries okay, but obviously not in-house and the chicken tenders not as good as in a previous visit. Have they changed suppliers? Didn’t have the texture of pure whole white meat chicken like friend remembered from before. Glad they have a few tap beers and not just the lites, so order a full pitcher for the best savings.Nice to have al fresco dining option, especially since although it just faces a parking lot at least there isn’t traffic roar like so many ill-placed restaurants have. However, because it’s so small it is hard to avoid smoke if others are lighting up so check your location and wind direction if you don’t enjoy breathing other people’s smoke while dining. Also, the metal chairs are tough on the rump so bring a cushion if you intend to linger.

Recently got to try Sunset Bistro out in Sun City and let me tell you they are definitely worth the trip. The gyro is generously loaded with meat and is ABSOLUTELY amazing. Definitely try the Chicken curry soup as well. Lisa is a great host and will treat you like family. Sunset Bistro is one of the hidden gems of the valley.
