Lunch included a bowl of delicious navy bean soup. The mushroom and swiss burger and fries was big enough for two meals. And tasty! Our server checked on us frequently and kept our drinks filled. Friendly staff, delicious food, easy parking, great prices.

After hearing mixed reviews for over two years, I finally decided to give Sunrise Restaurant a shot, and sadly, the rumors of uncleanliness were spot on. The inside has a lot of untapped potential with a nice layout, but the overall cleanliness was severely lacking, and the interior felt stuck in a time warp. The exterior didn’t fare much better—it’s old and deteriorating, which isn’t a great look for the downtown area.
Once inside, I was greeted by piles of dead flies in the lighting fixtures and layers of dust everywhere. The condiments were crusty, adding to the overall lack of hygiene. The service was underwhelming; we never got water, and there wasn’t a single check-in during our meal.
The food itself was okay. While it had decent flavor, it was clear that it came straight off the Sysco truck, and the presentation was nothing to write home about. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were generous, which was a plus.
Unless there are major improvements in cleanliness and an update to both the interior and exterior, I won’t be returning.

Went here for a quick breakfast. It was packed so that’s how you know it’s good! The service was excellent and quick. The server was very kind and attentive. The stuffed French Toast was delicious!

Have been going to this restaurant for years. Late of last year I had an incident where I discovered a cockroach inside one of the ketchup containers my son was eating. I informed the staff politely and they waived the bill as an apology. Some time passed after the second incident where my brother in law found yet another roach stuck to the side of his beef patty on his hamburger. Again, I informed the waitress and she waived the bill. I have not asked either time for the bill to be waived, I just simply brought it to their attention. People could get sick from eating pests. Later the same night the restaurant attempted to charge my debit card for the amount but it declined. I assumed this was a mistake. Being skeptical about returning after both incidents, my family decided to go again for food where they informed us we are banned from the restaurant. Without a reason they refused to serve us and take our order. We left without incident and never got our explanation for the permanent ban from one of my favorite restaurants despite the last few experiences involving pests in our food.

This restaurant in Whiting, IN is a hidden gem.
I ordered an egg special with bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes. It’s a basic breakfast but a really good meal. My husband got the Melting Pot skillet which comes with ham, bacon and sausage and a side of pancakes. We both got a drink and the bill was only $23!!! Unbelievable price!! We usually pay at least $40 for the two of us.

Diana you are a complete joke to the service industry. Our family has been coming to this restaurant for years and your condescending behavior was beyond disgusting. You asking us if we needed anything else after you had to go back for waters when initially we had no silverware, enough to say the rest of our conversation came to an end once coffee was served and no cream ever came back! No manger on duty per gentlemen that was hosting.
