A local friend of mine recommended me Sunrise, and I went on a rainy and windy Monday morning (where most places close in town) that was also happened to be Columbus Day. It was extremely busy and people were fighting for parking.
One thing you should know is that this place is CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM inside, or you can order online.
Despite the amount of people there, ordering queue was quick and while I fix up my coffee, my order was ready shortly after.
My first visit was a hot pastrami with Russian dressing on an everything bagel. I seriously didn’t know bagel can be this soft and airy! without any doubt, one of the best bagel I had, EVER!
My subsequent visits were a lot more relax with plenty of parking. For the week I was in the area, I went there three times!
After a fairly long wait because of the large volume of customers, I received my three bagels. I also picked up the local paper, which I think was $1.
I can’t find the receipt, but If I recall correctly, it was close to $15. Probably a little less, but close. But I was definitely closer to $15 than $10. So I felt that the price was a little on the high side.
Now to be fair, two bagels had cream cheese, and one had butter. But that’s still probably $12 or more for three bagels. Or over $8 for butter and cream cheese. Maybe I am wrong and just picky, but it just seemed to be too much.
Now price aside, the bagels were not bad. I would even say they were good. No they were not the best bagels that I personally have ever had. But it was good. So I would probably stop in again if in town. What I found expensive might just be the normal in New York. And I figure the other customers can’t all be wrong.
The exterior of the bagel was so crisp and beautiful color. Even with the outside being so crispy, the tenderness of the bagel melts in your mouth. We only tried their plain bagels but they were sooo good, and can’t wait to stop again for other varieties.
We got two egg sandwiches to share, one with pastrami and the other with sausage and hash browns. Both were exceptional, and held us over until we got all the way to Canada.
This business is cash only, but their prices are so reasonable! Both sandwiches together were just $12.
Highly recommend this place, even if you have to go a little out of the way for it. If you’re in the area already and love bagels, it’s a must-try.
Their selection of cream cheeses is a dream, and the lox! Absolutely divine. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a must-visit for bagel aficionados. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
