Sunny’s Sushi is fantastic! The fresh rolls, especially the Rainbow roll and the bento boxes, are a must-try. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a great experience. Highly recommend!

I used to visit Sunny Sushi on the West Side and always had a good experience, so when we were near Mesa, we decided to try the Mesa’s location, what we assumed was another location of the same restaurant. We expected the same quality and pricing.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. On a Saturday night, the restaurant was nearly empty, which was surprising. I ordered the same sushi I usually get, but it was noticeably more expensive, and the slice of salmon was extremely thin, very different from what I was used to. The difference in portion and value was disappointing.

As our server explained, the restaurants share the same name but are not actually the same establishment. After this experience, I completely understand. This was my first visit to this location, and it will be my last.

Overall my experience was okay, but I’m not sure I would be back, at least to this location. When my friend and I arrived there was only 1 other table seated. Even with the restaurant being nearly empty, service was very poor. Our server only came to the table a handful of times, to take drink orders/bring drinks, and to take the food order/bring the food. Not once did he come over and check on us during the meal. We also had to call him over to clear our plates and ask to order dessert, plus to ask for the bill. During the entire time we were there, only one other table walked in. Our server along with other employees were just hanging around the sushi case, chatting and on their phones in full view of customers. We had to wait to even be able to get their attention to wave our server over.
Personally, I think the food is definitely overpriced for the quality. Basic rolls are $8-12, and anything else is $12+. I ordered a fried California Roll, which in its on was $12. Many of the appetizers are similar price or more than some of the entrees.
The fried ice cream is a MESS. The whole thing is the size of a grapefruit, but when you cut into it, the tempura layer is at least an inch thick. The ice cream itself is smaller than the size of a baseball. There’s more fried outside than ice cream, and it’s so drenched in chocolate drizzle you can’t even taste the flavor of the ice cream.
The nicest part of the restaurant was probably the atmosphere, but if I didn’t know it was a sushi restaurant/Oriental cuisine, I wouldn’t have been able to tell.

I normally love the sushi here! But the last 2 times I’ve ordered the eel rolls, they’ve been so loose and falling apart. Tastes great, but super hard to eat especially since I got it to-go.

I wanted this to be ok. It wasn’t.
The rolls were stale (like a day old, would’ve been better to go to Albertsons 1000%), the “wasabi” was served as brown, hard balls with zero flavor left, the appetizer was literally mostly onions and the chicken was rank and old. I had a bite and stopped eating. The person who did continue to eat is feeling like they shouldn’t have. Should’ve check the health inspectors list but I’m sure they are not in the A ranking.

Update review:
My husband came back for dinner yesterday, and noticed the new dinner menu. We were so excited to be back. Unfortunately, our eyebrows came together in confusion when we noticed the new prices here have become ridiculous. It was $58 for 2 pretty basic rolls and 1 order of smoked salmon sashimi (6pcs), water for drinks and this was before tip. It’s become more expensive than higher end sushi places we have been to in Miami, LA, and Houston.
While the food was good and the service was good, these prices do not match at all anymore, and I say that from a place of love.
As someone whose family owns several businesses like this, I understand that restaurants are trying to recover from the pandemic, but to charge $16 for salmon sashimi is pushing it, to charge an additional $7 to have it smoked (total of $23 for 6 pieces of thin sliced raw salmon) is crazy when nicer sushi restaurants with more prestige in London charge $15-20 for smoked salmon sashimi.
I’m feeling disappointed but hopefully next visit will be different.

From the delicious rolls, the tasty sashimi, to the customer service, this place is top notch.

We frequently go to Sunnys on the far east side on Montana, and this place was even better. The environment and the ambiance is classier, quieter, and more elegant.
The food is more expensive here by a few dollars, but after trying their selection of nigiri and sashimi, it’s very clear why. The quality and the flavor of their fish is just amazing.
Our waitress (who was training another girl as well) was absolutely the best. Helpful and patient.
We ordered the 28D nigiri/sashimi plate, and 2 rolls, and 2 drinks. Total was around $73. No complaints here, the entire experience was great.

Best sushi in El Paso!! Loved everything about it. The decor and ambience is so artful and chic. The staff were attentive and friendly. Most importantly, *every* bite of food was insanely delicious. The fish melts in your mouth, and the Korean style appetizers were super flavorful. Our faves were the Lion King roll and squid YUUUUUMMMMM! We can’t wait to go back again and again and again

1st visit. Expansive menu. Arrived 5PM on Sat. Friendly greeting. 1 of several locally owned spots. Reese was our host. Offered he was newly hired. But intent of giving us best service. And he did. My pics speak for our orders. All was fresh, hand roll was perfect and soup was classic. Great spot if nearby. I’m eager to return.

Sushi was very good! They have a very big menu, but our waitress was amazing and gave us some recommendations. Gyozas were good too, as well as the complementary miso soup and spicy cucumbers.
So far they are not selling alcohol (June 2021).
