This is a great place to grab a hearty breakfast at a very reasonable price. Our waitress was great, efficiently taking our order and had impeccable timing with refills or asking if we needed anything. The menu is straight forward with all the staples of a great breakfast. The food came out quick, nicely presented and nicely flavored. The portions are just right to leave you comfortably full, but not weighed down. There is plenty of seating with lots of space between the tables and booths.

We came for breakfast and absolutely loved everything about this place, it is clearly a neighborhood staple. This is a proper diner serving the classic no-frills breakfast and lunch you’d expect. The food is prepared with care and presented neatly, and the service is friendly and professional. The interior is cozy, cute, and clean; the green tiles and classic red booths and tables made us feel right at home though it was our first time here.

The food can be summed up as “just right”. My partner and I each got omelettes, and shared an order of french toast. Our omelettes were expertly made with plenty of fresh meat/veggies and folded up neatly, much better than anything we’ve gotten at the more expensive breakfast chains around the area. The omelettes came with a side of hash-browns and choice of toast or english muffin with jelly provided, even the toast was done just right and not soggy with too much butter. The french toast we shared was likewise perfectly done, nothing too fancy but nicely fluffy, well browned, and dusted with powdered sugar. It came with “whipped spread” if you’d like, and there are pitchers of syrup at the table.

As lovely as the food and atmosphere are, the service was the highlight of our experience. We were greeted as soon as we came in, and got to choose wherever we’d like to sit. Our server was friendly and professional, always there whenever we needed something without visiting so often that it became a bother. More than just a smiling face, we noticed she exited the building to help a senior veteran from their car into the restaurant, and also helped them back to the car when they were leaving. We overheard her and the other staff chatting with some of the regulars, checking in about family and friends and local happenings. In a time when the world seems so divided, it was heartwarming to find a slice of true kindness and community in this diner. We only stopped in for a bite to eat but left with so much more. I’m so happy this business exists in the neighborhood, and I hope more small businesses similar to it open up around the triangle!

Umm it’s pretty dead on a Sunday afternoon, so that’s not a good sign. The place is clean and neat, the bathrooms have no soap though it’s pretty quiet even with the grill and cooking going on. I’ll be honest Im a black guy and I walk in to only white people so that’s that. I ordered fish and chips lunch special. I got my fish fried hard which was cook to perfection and the fries are fries the coleslaw was pretty well too. The place is alright as a whole nothing more nothing less.

Sunny’s diner is
-Affordable
– Kid friendly
– Easy simple diner food for the family.

Sunny’s diner is casual, comfortable and easy going. It can get really busy so I love stopping in after the lunch rush. If you don’t want to spend a fortune, deal with the hassle of fancy restaurants but want good, easy, food this is your stop. Perfect for: spontaneous family lunches/diners, meet up spot for friends, post Umstead visit, quiet solo dining and quick easy take out

Plus everyone loves the owners, they have brought such joy to our forever growing north Raleigh.

I’ll always recommend Sunny’s

I love going here It’s a nice place and friendly people. The food is good. My first not so happy visit today was the owner didn’t get my order correct and he was a bit rude to me. So, I won’t go here for a while. Hope if I decide to ever go back his attitude is a bit nicer.

Number one thing to know- I haven’t had a full breakfast that cost under $20 in a looooong time (not counting moms house!). I mean the food to cost ratio is great; they have specials posted and a real nice menu if the specials don’t appeal to you. Great speedy service, really friendly waitstaff, and a pretty cool interior. Anyone remember that show Alice and Mel’s diner !??
A note about the eggs- ask ahead to have them cooked a little longer if you want them crispy on the edges.

What a great little diner attached to a gas station and a Dunkin’ Donuts. The food was unbelievable and the value is fantastic. $7.50 for two pieces of French toast, two sausage links and two fried eggs! Service could have been a little more timely, but otherwise it was good enough. I noticed also that the bathrooms are wheelchair accessible, please see my picture.

Great little gas station diner just off Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh. Ample menu with a great selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

This was a quick stop for a simple breakfast sandwich while I was between appointments. I ordered directly from the register and waited at the bar area.

I chose the Breakfast BLT and was pleasantly surprised with the size and flavors. It was really good for only $6.99. The coffee was $2.99 on a large to-go cup.

The gentlemen making the food seemed to also be the owner and who rang my food. Friendly and dedicated to making sure everything was done right!

Don’t judge a book by its cover, try the unpretentious spots and you may just find a hidden gem!

I love this homey little unassuming diner next to a gas station. It’s family owned, no frills. Delicious reliable food that just feels good. I feel right at home and relaxed, the service is quick and friendly. The French toast is YUM and turkey links as well, delicious as a halal option or just because they taste amazing. 10/10 this place hits every time without fail and most of the time doesn’t have a ridiculous line around the corner.
