The chicken is super fatty and just has the strong/off chicken flavor that cheap or extensively stored chicken has. Difficult to explain but I just couldn’t stomach the chicken this last time I grabbed food here.
I went back thinking okay, ill just get beef teriyaki… The beef was sooo full of gristle and tough fat which I don’t usually mind some but every single piece was nearly inedible I also got Filipino sausages which were good! Egg rolls were good! Cream cheese wontons were good!
Just seems like the quality of meat has gone way down. I felt I wasted money the past two times I’ve come here. 2ish years ago this place was the spot for teryaki but theres so many better options in the area now :/
Sad 🙁
Best is to order take out & eat at your own comfortable enjoyable environment
Atmosphere is not friendly, and not comfortable to sit inside.
The lounge is extremely cold. Owner is cheap & don’t want to spend the money to make it better ,and comfortable for customers
Best is make the least interaction with the people working here.
The whole place looks run down, and needs updating.
Restrooms are behind strong metal locked gate, and are down the stairs.
Will not advice, nor suggest to my female friends to use their restrooms without having someone on the outside waiting for them
Large parking lot
After looking through their menu online four times, I noticed they offered several heavenly-sounding items. Not only do they have teriyaki and combo meals, but they also provide a hearty choice of soups, sushi rolls, appetizers, lunch specials, sides, and Chinese wok meals. Yup, unless you know what you want, it will take you several glances to decide. Their menu was slightly more extensive than what I expected; still, there were choices to be had. I knew for certain that I really wanted some teriyaki, and my husband was craving egg rolls!
I ordered ahead for pickup; in fact, Sunny’s Teriyaki is relatively close to where I live.
I ordered the chicken teriyaki and a side of egg rolls. The chicken teriyaki came with white rice (we substituted for fried rice for an additional $2) and a side salad with ranch dressing; the side of eggrolls was a total of two small egg rolls.
I feel they must have made part of my order early; my Teriyaki was barely warm, but the two egg rolls were hot; nonetheless, the Teriyaki was flavorful and saucy with large chicken pieces and there was plenty of it.
Now, about the rice, what can I say? It wasn’t my favorite fried rice. The rice did have a background flavor of smokiness; I was trying really hard to figure out why that would be, perhaps how they cooked it or what they cooked it on?? It wasn’t overwhelming, but enough of the taste to linger.
Onto the eggrolls, the taste was ok, but the size or lack of size was disappointing. I think we were given spring rolls and not eggrolls; I have never eaten an eggroll so small, I did not measure, but if I had to guess, the size was probably four inches long and about a half to three-quarters of an inch in diameter. The price of $4.50 in comparison to what we had was reasonably expensive.
Because they didn’t satisfy the hunger for eggrolls, I ended up buying a couple of eggrolls today from Safeway, and they were a little over six inches long and around two inches in diameter.
Last but not least, the salad. Crispy fresh iceberg lettuce mix with ranch dressing. I am still confused on why ranch dressing seems to be the “go-to” salad dressing around here; I wish places would offer at least two dressing choices. My husband’s exact words on the salad were, “it’s a side salad with ranch dressing!”
Moving on to the building, which was in ok shape, the drive-through menu board could have used some help. However, I fully understand that many of our locally owned small businesses are teetering on closing or having a tough time staying open, let alone remodeling something right now, so that is easily forgivable!
The lady that finalized my order was smiley and friendly; it’s always nice to see someone that looks happy, especially during these Covid times!
Sunny’s Teriyaki has been around for a very long time, and it’s nice to see a small business still surviving after all of this time.
What I can say for sure is that you should try their Chicken Teriyaki!!!!
“Please keep supporting all of our locally owned small businesses; they are an essential entity in our community; we thrive when they thrive, and please be safe and kind to all living creatures!!!”
Two stars because I was definitely not hungry after getting my meal.
It’s clear they have no regard for common courtesy or basic respect toward customers or delivery drivers. No one deserves to be talked to the way I was.
If you value being treated with decency, I’d recommend avoiding this place altogether. There are plenty of other restaurants that appreciate their customers and show it.
Got back home and I must say, absolutely love and will be my new go to for Real old school teriyaki done right. I hit the teriyaki jackpot with this place! Beef teriyaki done right! Much appreciated!
