Just happened to see this on the map and decided to stop. We ordered country fried steak, corned beef Benedict, badger ham and cheese sandwich, and the north cabin meal. For drinks we tried the bloody Mary and mimosa. They serve collectivo coffee.
The bloodys, i think, have become our second favorite. They batch make it stepping citrus and peppers, and spices and horseradish. They were very good and simply garnished with an olive. Mimosa was sweet, but a little imbalanced. Coffee good for a place like this, but I’m not the biggest collectivo fan. But it is leagues above all other diner coffee.
Food very good. This is highly executed simple diner food. But i say that in a good way. Over easy eggs made very well, and even got a small amount of crispy edges without over cooking. And whites were done completely, too, which is not always the norm. Downside, the poached eggs on the Benedict were jammy boiled egg consistency instead of the desired doneness. A little disappointing. Steak and simple white gravy very good. Biscuit decent. All lovely. Corned beef was very flavorful. The “Yukes” that come standard with the meals were very well cooked. They are a cut and smashed potato with some nice charring. The downside to the well cook and texture is they are not seasoned at all. Sure, i can add salt and pepper at the table, but it is not the same for potatoes if not seasoned in the cooking process. But they are still okay to eat. The ham steak portion size of the north cabin was smaller than i expected, though not dangerously low value, but i would’ve liked a slightly bigger cut. Grilled sandwich was good, but average. Would have liked more cheese to balance the ham and bacon.
The cinnamon roll is very good and served warmed.
Service was very good. I think she checked in often enough without being over bearing. I dislike when servers are constantly checking in, though i understand it is a subjective experience. She offered wonderful things without having to ask and even got me a fresh coffee refill for the road. Awesome.
The place is small and cozy. It gives small town vibes but in vibrant New Berlin. When compared to other small town Northwoods diners, this place is a five star restaurant.
Overall: very good. I would return.
The feel of the restaurant was very small town cafe, very welcoming.
The food was good, would return again.
However some of the eggs were overcooked and the potatoes were cooked wonderfully but lacked any flavor.
ALL the meat we tried was done AMAZINGLY.
The drinks were great, just wish they had more options.
He gave us some food recommendations and was absolutely right; they were delicious.
Looking forward to going back!
