As an old Korean dude that has been to countless Korean BBQ places, I can confidently recommend Sungbookdong. The service was fast and friendly, the restaurant was clean and spacious, parking was convenient and the food was perfect. I had dinner with six large guys, and we had our fill and then some. The total bill including beers, soju and tip was $100 per head. Very fair and overall a great experience.

Great family restaurant serving all around traditional Korean dishes and bbq. Had Yook Gae Jang and Haemul Pajun. The soup wasn’t salty and not too spicy. The Pajun was soooooo good. Crispy, light, pan fried to perfection. All the food, including the bonchon is handmade in house. Go during the day when it’s not as busy and you’ll find the owner prepping all the ingredients to make the different bonchon. Nothing coming out of a jar or packaged. They also serve complimentary crab as part of the bonchon.

Service is excellent. All the eemos take care of you like family. I don’t get the negative reviews about poor attitude and service. Maybe a misunderstanding due to cultural differences? Strange.

The parking is a bit of an issue. I can’t deny that. But that’s how busy this place is. Try going in spring during the day. The place is packed from all the people coming back from playing a round of golf.

If going at night, don’t park in the lower level garage as it is closed at 8:00pm.

This place is my family’s go to for excellent homemade Korean food. We often reserve the private section when having group dinners.

Located on Northern Blvd at the Eastern border of Bayside, Queens just before Little Neck; small shared parking lot in front and lower level small garage; offering Kbbq but come here for the soy sauce marinated raw crab and stews; good assortment of included quality side dishes; clean & well ventilated interior; casual vibe but can get quite busy; expect a wait during peak rush; call for reservations or takeout. Support your local small businesses & restaurants.

Love to come here from time to time with family. I like the complimentary sikhye(sweet rice punch) at the end of the meal. We always get a BBQ Combo, Pajeon(seafood pancake) appetizer and the Manduguk (rice cake, dumpling beef broth) soup.
Parking can be hard to find in the evening, it gets pretty busy.

I had a very bad experience at this restaurant.

First, I ordered the aged kimchi pork belly stew. The portion size was incredibly small for the price. Looking at the menu, all the dishes were generally much more expensive than at other Korean restaurants. When you go to a restaurant, you should want to go back again, but I have absolutely no desire to return to this one.

Secondly, the service was terrible. The waitress only came to our table once, when she brought the food. She never once came to my table to check if I needed anything or if the food was okay. It was a truly awful dining experience.

Thirdly, I witnessed this restaurant recycling the lettuce wraps served with the barbecue meat.

After a group of customers finished their meal and left, I saw a waitress collect the leftover lettuce wraps separately and take them into the kitchen. Then she gathered the remaining side dishes and plates together and cleaned them up. After witnessing this, I asked a restaurant employee, “Does this restaurant recycle the lettuce wraps?” She said no.

So I told her that I saw the waitress collecting the leftover lettuce wraps separately and taking them into the kitchen. She then claimed that the restaurant disposes of the lettuce wraps separately in the kitchen. This explanation is simply an excuse. How can I understand that they throw away the other side dishes together but collect the lettuce wraps separately to dispose of them in the kitchen? This is a very unsanitary practice that violates hygiene regulations. The thought of eating someone else’s leftover food is something I don’t even want to think about. It was my first time at this restaurant, and I will never go back. The prices are very expensive, the service is terrible, and there are major hygiene issues.

I heard this place gets completely packed during peak hours, so I made sure to come a little early. It paid off—I got seated right away. Even though the staff were clearly busy, they were incredibly friendly and attentive. They took the time to explain the menu and checked in throughout the meal, which left a great impression.

The barbecue had a rich yet balanced smoky flavor, and the texture of the meat was excellent. The brisket was moist and tender, practically melting in my mouth, and the marinated short ribs were perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. All the side dishes tasted carefully prepared, so you really can’t go wrong with anything.

The banchan were especially interesting—some were things I had never seen before, yet the flavors were surprisingly familiar for a Korean person like me. The kimchi tasted even more traditionally Korean than what I’m used to back home. Among all the sides, the yellow pumpkin salad stood out as my favorite.

For dessert, the sikhye was the highlight. It was clean, refreshing, and just sweet enough. Honestly, if they sold it separately, I would’ve taken a few bottles home.

There’s usually a wait during busy hours, but if you come a little early, you can enjoy everything comfortably. Overall, the food, the friendliness, and the atmosphere were all excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back.

This place is trash.
Nothing that i hate more than bad food.
Rice and side dishes all tasted spoiled. The beef (glabi) was mid but everything else was horrendous. Didn’t get steamed eggs, and staff blamed that it was late.

Of all the places I’ve dined, this place has got to be one of the top 5 worst dining experiences. Do not come to this place for the average at best food with ridiculously overpriced items and TERRIBLE customer service. Giving the food 3 stars is generous considering the lack of variety in the $100+ combos. Firstly, upon entering and sitting, we were rudely reminded of the kitchen’s closing time two separate times by two separate staff members BACK TO BACK. The table we were seated at wasn’t properly sanitized as you could see the remnants of the last table’s food splayed out in the center tray of the table. Being that the menu was different from other kbbq places, we asked for their recommendations to which the lady taking our order walked away in contempt and simply never came back. The entire dining experience itself felt like an eternity of silent munching, having each staff member hover over us, waiting for our departure. In reality, we had been there for less than 20min with our server rapidly bringing out/cooking each meat with one instance where they cooked our meat separately unbeknown to us just to serve our food as quickly as they could. After promptly asking for the check, we left a tip that was suitable to the both bill and service. Our server whom had rushed us had the nerve to chase us down outside and ask why we left the tip that we did, to which we told them the experience was terrible and one we never want to have again. My party of 4 and I were sent to scout out a suitable dining space for a very important business outing and we can confidently say this is NOT the spot to do so.

Really bad service. We still have 2 guests (total 4) haven’t arrive so we order some appetizers (around $70.00) and tell time we will order more bbq until our guests arrive. The lady server look at us ( sound like we are a cheap customer), when the raw crab served, we requested 2 bowls of white rice ( cause it’s taste better to eat with some rice), the lady look at us like (Jesus, this 2 cheap guys came here order 3 small dishes and 2 bowls of rice? ) my friend question here why no small dishes serve, most Korea restaurants serve quite numbers of small dishes, the lady look at my friend and freeze for 10 seconds, sound like you guys are so unbelievable, with 3 small order and you ask for free side dishes. So, they didn’t serve us the free small dishes. 30 minutes after our 2 guests arrive and we added 3-4 dishes, then the free small dishes appeared,
Jesus? They grill our ribeye, duck meat and beef tongue on a hot plate? It’s fried lady, not grill. My friend ask them why, their answer is you need to order Korean bbq? What? Korean bbq? What the hell is that? We in a Korean bbq restaurant and we order expensive ribeye, beef tongue and duck breast, it’s still not Korean BBQ? Our check came out 360.00 plus
