I initially ordered the Veganquiles and added the vegan chicken, only to be told after ordering that they were out of the vegan chicken. Without it, the dish was basically just chips and salsa, which made the $16 price hard to justify. This was especially surprising considering it was early Monday morning. I ended up adding regular chicken instead, but the dish still didn’t come together well and I didn’t even finish it.
Still hungry, I ordered the breakfast chicken sandwich with a sunny side egg and Sunday fries. This was okay, but nothing memorable.
The Mexican mocha with oat milk was honestly the best thing I had there.
What also stood out was the service. My server, Aldo Guiterrez, came across as unprofessional compared to the rest of the staff, which made the experience feel even more off.
Overall, between the disappointing food and the service, this isn’t a place I would return to.
Our experience was great until we began to be served. To start, we ordered coffee and iced peach tea. It took almost 15 minutes just for my hubs to receive his warm coffee and an additional 10 minutes after that for me to get my tea. Instead of bringing both out at the same time, the waiter brought out one before the other. My hubs got his coffee first, then I got my tea 10 minutes later. Our food came 20 minutes after my husbands coffee. It doesn’t make sense to wait for our order longer than it took to be seated unless you are at stake house. Usually an effective business would bring both out at the same time. Not sure why it would take so long to bring out peach tea that taste like you licked a balloon. This tea was terrible! I’ve had better canned tea from a gas station.
Our first meal ordered was the birriaquiles (chilaquiles with Birria) with an added order of eggs to it. First of all why would you have to “add” eggs to it when it should be part of the meal. Second, it was $4 to add one egg. Seriously? The egg looked like a flat half slice of bread all for $4. I was able to gulp down the egg in two bites. Pretty expensive add on. The tortillas on the top were crispy and coated with green chile sauce but I only had two chips with that wonderful texture since the bowl was almost half filled with the sauce. I love chili verde but don’t drown the chips in it. The rest of the chips were so soaked that it taste like I was eating noodles. The meal came with pickled onions which were good but it was way too salty. The combination of pickled onions and chile verde sauce made the dish too salty. Maybe regular red onions would be good. Now, for the birria, it taste like canned beef. Pretty cheap dry texture with NO birria seasoning, just dry meat. I ended up unpleasantly slurping my noodle chip dry birria soup.
The second meal was “Revuleto” (eggs and Avocado slices, corn tortillas, and bacon. I can’t believe this meal was $18. The portion size of this meal was too small. My hubs finished this pretty try fast. On the plus side, the bacon, eggs, and avocado was pleasant. The corn tortillas (3 of them) were delicious but we have had better. For that price we were hoping for a better taste and portion size.
Overall, the food for this place was mediocre in taste and overpriced. If you’re looking for a place with good food, don’t come here. The food here was very bland. You can go to another place and get a better portion size and taste for the value. The only thing this place has over everyone else is the decor of the environment and the plating. Just because the meal is presented good doesn’t mean it taste like a $20 plate.
Don’t get me wrong, this place isn’t all bad, it’s the taste of the food. I don’t think anyone comes here for the food, Instead they come for the environment and presentation of the food. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s just not what we are looking for. Sometimes you just wanna take your friends or your family to a very nice looking place. If you want a place where it looks Wonderfully decorated, themed, with an elegant style, this is the place for you. If you’re looking for a place with really good food, nope, it doesn’t cut it. I gave one star for the environment and one star for plate presentation but that’s it. We are definitely not going to be back.
The fried chicken was more of a bland chicken nugget size of dry chicken breast.
