The owners are very welcoming and sweet. If you want authentic south indian taste, this the place you should definitely try.
If you’re in Ottawa, this spot is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in town!
If you’re craving an authentic South Indian breakfast in the heart of Ottawa, this Mini Tiffin is a must-try. We enjoyed a wholesome spread featuring soft idly, crispy masala dosa, medhu vada, comforting pongal, pineapple kesari, coconut chutney, kaara chutney, elu podi, and flavour-packed sambhar.✨
And the star of the morning — their Bengaluru-style ghee podi masala dosa — crispy, aromatic, and bursting with that nostalgic Bangalore-style flavour.♥️
A special shoutout to Sundari for her warm welcome and the genuine personal connection she creates with every customer. Her hospitality truly adds to the homely dining experience and makes you want to return again. ✨
From the food to the ambience, everything felt like a comforting breakfast straight from a South Indian home. If you’re in Ottawa and craving traditional flavours, this spot deserves a place on your list.
We ordered the biriyani, and it had such a homely touch—flavorful, comforting, and different from the usual restaurant-style versions. It really felt like something cooked with care.
The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the limited space, which might not suit larger groups. But overall, it’s a great spot if you want authentic, homestyle South Indian food with amazing hospitality. Definitely worth a visit!
However, you must understand that this is not a fancy place. It’s a small and low key restaurant. The restaurant owner is the host, server, and the chef. So, keep your expectations regarding service and ambiance realistic. I’d go there alone to enjoy the food; it’s certainly not a place to take your date out.
The parking is in front of the restaurant and is limited.
Finally, the lock in the bathroom is electronic and color-coded. It is easy to make a mistake, so be warned.
Absolutely the best experience at Sundari Restaurant in Ottawa. The food was outstanding—authentic and perfectly prepared. The filter coffee was rich and delicious, one of the best I’ve had. The staff were warm and welcoming, making the whole visit even more special. Highly recommended!
Delightful, fully vegetarian and, I believe, mostly gluten free, menu. Sundari, the owner, gave us advice on how to eat the different small dishes. She came a few times afterwards to make sure everything was okay. I definitely recommend the restaurant. It is a small and popular place, so you may want to call ahead to make sure that you get a seat.
Their Masala dosa is absolutely authentic — perfectly crisp on the outside with a flavorful, well-seasoned potato filling inside. Every bite makes you feel like you’re back home enjoying a traditional meal. The chutneys and sambar complement it beautifully.
The Medu vada is always soft, fresh, and perfectly fried — light, fluffy, and delicious. It’s hard to find vadas this good!
We also love their Chicken 65 and Biriyani — both are packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. In fact, the biriyani is such a hit that even the children love it, which says a lot!
And we can’t leave without mentioning their filter coffee — strong, aromatic, and the perfect way to finish the meal.
We truly enjoy it every single time we go. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic South Indian food in Ottawa!
