– Bacon Cheeseburger – $16.50: Huge (half pound?), lean and therefore drier. I asked for it to be cooked medium, but it was on the higher end of medium-well. It was of medium quality and plenty hot. The bacon was a large portion, good, but a bit dry. The cheese did not look like a lot, but added enough flavor and was melty good.
I asked for no pickles and there were no pickles, but it was also missing onions and ketchup (listed on the menu but not included on my burger). There was ketchup available at the table, so that part was easily remedied, but not the onions. The mayo was on the bottom. The bun was toasted and yet soft.
– Fries (comes with the burger): Over seasoned and cold. If it were seasoned less and up to temp, it would have been wonderful fries for sure. Medium cut and about standard serving size. The seasoning was spicy and probably included Rosemary and a strong amount of pepper. They were also fairly salty.
– Chicken Quesadilla – $14.50: Good soft and flavorful tortilla. The insides were a bit on the wet side, medium spicy, and good quality chicken. The guacamole they served with it was VERY spicy, but the salsa was medium spicy. The sour cream was a bit heavier, which was nice. We took some home and decided to finish it off a couple hours later and it was soggy so don’t take it home for leftovers.
They have some specials so check those out. I came Wednesday, the wrong day for a cheeseburger (Thursday).
– Service: Positive and helpful, but stretched thin. I could tell it was no fault of hers. She was the only one serving the restaurant. 4GR8Foods restaurants (Grand Coney for example) has been known to have staff issues once in a while. Generally (80% of the time by my experience so far), I find the staff great and well equipped for the work, though. She also took our money without asking if we wanted change (assuming we purposed the rest for a tip).
– Atmosphere: Very nice. Festive hispanic flare and strong warm tones. They had tables with chairs, booths, bar seating, and outdoor seating. They also have rooms at both their locations for events. It was fairly quiet when I stopped by.
– Conclusion: The food was okay, but perhaps a little over priced.
Visited on a Wednesday at 7pm.
Offering a great variety of southwestern styled plates, I chose the basics to tell me how the prepared meals.
The sausage links were perfection. Crisp casing and properly cooked. The seasoned potatoes were the same. I chose to take the rest home so I could enjoy the toast and pancakes. Kudos to the morning crew as I thoroughly enjoyed them both.
But what about the eggs? The scramble was exceptional. More important; every bite was hot. I’ve had my share of scrambles where you scramble to eat them before the lukewarm eggs turned luke-cold. Not so here. They were great with just the right amount of buttery texture.
I enjoyed it all with a strawberry orange juice beverage and a glass of water.
And lastly, my server, Ada. She was the perfect balance of attentive.
