Went to celebrate my birthday and had a fantastic time! Our server Emiliee was very kind and answered any questions we had. We couldn’t have asked for better service! The food was amazing, the staff wonderful, definitely a new favorite restaurant. Highly recommend.

My significant other and I decided to try this place for our 1st time. We sat at the hibachi table and it was to crowded and close together so we switched to a booth. We waited about 20 minutes for our table. Once seated we waited about 10 minutes to order our drinks. That took about 25 minutes to receive. Which was honestly fine. Once we ordered our food that of which included 1 dinner (seafood combination with a medium rare steak on the side & 4 different rolls of sushi) we waited about 45 minutes to an hour for our combo to come out and well over an hour for the sushi. Our food was lukewarm the steak was very well done and chewy. Our waitress only checked on us 2 times the entire time we were there and she wasn’t even the one who took our bill. Very disappointing!! Now the sushi on the other hand was absolutely amazing! Best sushi we ever had!! Needless to say we won’t ordering anything other sushi if we come back here.

A few weeks ago my wife and I flew up to Michigan and saw this restaurant near us, so we had to check it out. We had a filet mignon dinner, and it was absolutely fantastic. Everything was cooked perfectly, exactly how we ordered it, which we aren’t used to from where we come from.

Our waitress, Emily, was also amazing. She checked up on us regularly and kept our drinks topped off. We didn’t even have to wait for service at all, that’s how amazing it was! I highly recommend this place to anyone who want’s to have a fantastic Japanese experience in Mt. Pleasant.

Don’t even hesitate, just go!!! This place was such a great experience! We were sat at the sushi bar because the booths were taken and it was so fun! Leo was the sushi chef that night and he was very friendly and gave us a free appetizer of some sort of fried white fish – it was so good!! The presentation of our rolls was top notch, you can tell he takes a lot of pride in his work. The quality of the rolls was even more so! Everything tasted incredible. Prices were reasonable and the drinks were good! We left so full and satisfied and cannot wait to return!

i’ve been to many Hibachi spots in multiple cities and this small town wonder does the trick. fast seating, 4 hibachi grills keeping wait times down.
chefs were skilled, hostess/waitress/manager were kind beyond words. Their sauce has a home style yet incredibly delicious flavor. everything was cooked perfectly, strong cocktail list, great wine & sake collection.
was surprised soba wasn’t included but maybe an add on?
would make a detour just to come back, great job Sumo. thank you!

So first before I say the positives I need to mention a negative in the past. About three years ago or so we ate here for what me and my girlfriend thought would be the last time. They used to automatically charge for a gratuity tip in the bill, and the last time we ate there, they didn’t but were incredibly rude to us the entire time. We left without leaving a tip and they chased us outside and asked for a tip. Apparently they didn’t charge one in the bill because they “liked us.” Still confused on the logic if they were gonna chase us out for a tip anyway. Point is, we swore off this place for good. But we were with my girlfriend’s mom today and suddenly just decided to give them another chance since we have been dissatisfied by Mount Pleasant’s food offerings as of late. While we were apprehensive, we figured what the heck? Why not? So we did and WE ARE SO GLAD WE DID! The food was wonderful and tasted amazing but not only that, our server was incredible! Her name was Danielle, and she was very attentive, sweet, and friendly. She met all of our needs and was immensely pleasant! She said we made her day and she was so soft spoken and kind! Thanks to her and the food tasting better than we have ever had there, we will be putting Sumo Sushi back on our list of restaurants we will make return visits to.

My wife and I visited our son and his girlfriend in Mt Pleasant for their 21st birthdays. They wanted to try Sumo Sushi & Steak House, and we’re glad they did because it was delicious! My wife had the spicy shrimp roll. I had the vegetable lo mein. My son’s gf had shrimp fried rice. My son had a bunch of stuff as pictured here. We all enjoyed our food and if we go back, we will try the hibachi side.

Wonderful experience. The food was delicious. We used to go to Kujo on the other end of town but that closed so we decided to try Sumo. The experience was about the same. Price, likewise. It’s not someplace you go frequently unless you have the money. Always fun!
