⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sumo Sumo – A Beautiful Blend of Tradition, Flavor, and Hospitality
From the moment you step through the gorgeous entrance doors at Sumo Sumo in Sherwood Park, you’re transported into a space that feels like the perfect crossroads between tradition and modernity. The atmosphere is clean, stylish, and welcoming, and there’s plenty of comfortable seating to settle into. We were greeted with a warm smile by the hostess, which set the tone for a lovely evening.
I even had the chance to meet the owner, who was absolutely lovely and radiated pride in the restaurant she’s built—and rightfully so!
We started with miso soup and a giant salad with the most incredible mango dressing I’ve ever tasted.
For the main event, we ordered the Hockey Platter—a stunning and generous sushi tray packed with maki rolls, sushi, and sashimi—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The tuna melted in my mouth. The assorted tempura was a treat and even had a battered red pepper slice which I’ve never tried.
We finished it off with deep-fried ice cream for dessert, which was just the perfect indulgent end to the meal.
I left absolutely stuffed and completely satisfied. This was a standout dining experience in every way.
Five huge stars—Sumo Sumo is a must-visit! Can’t wait to go back and bring everyone I know.

Food was alright, better than most sushi places but far from the best. I find it odd they use the sweet chilli sauce on majority of the rolls. Makes it gross. The service was okay but the server kept asking us if the 5th person was coming. She asked us 4x. We expressed that they may not come when we called to make the reso. We acknowledged that we didn’t need to wait for them to order.

Had a great experience. Started with the salmon wonton and mango avocado spring rolls. We had the hockey roll, the playoff roll and the dragon roll. The salmon sashimi was thick. The server was excellent and provided us with recommendations. Will be back.

Absolutely love this place, quickly became top picks. Many options and all are very delicious. I just had my birthday dinner there yesterday and I already want to go back, the beef sukiaki, electric roll and meat lovers bento box were great options. Service was great and patient. And the atmosphere and decor are beautiful especially in summer, what a gem!

Hadn’t been here before and I can’t believe I have been missing out! The exterior is a bit deceiving, the inside is so calm and beautiful. I also love the patio space! Very cool! My friend and I had the vegetable and shrimp tempura (loved the red peppers!) as well as several kinds of sushi. All were delicious! I will definitely be adding this to my restaurant rotation.

So tasty and lovely! The patio is a beautiful environment and the restaurant has cute entry doors, bamboo walls & waterfalls etc. The food is delicious and reasonably priced for a sushi bar. I highly recommend any of the boat meals/sharing plates. Staff is great and really helpful. There is plenty of parking available on site, and there is accessible seating in the restaurant (if required). We will definitely be back.

I went with my boyfriend on a Sunday. It was nice and quiet as well as the food was wonderful! We ordered the calamari, Maki Boat, and Takoyaki. It was all amazing. Same with the boba tea. Definitely recommend this as a date place!

This place is my favourite for sushi. Being celiac I need gluten free so they give me steamed shrimp instead of tempura. They also give me sauce that is gluten free and I can’t say enough about that Joe’s special roll. It’s so good!

If you are interested to visit, I would suggest to ask to seat in patio specially in the morning (mid summer-autumn). The scenery is nice and quiet. Only thing that is somewhat bothering is bees hovering around you hehe but not really a big issue.
Our server’s name is Tyson and the service is surprisingly fast. I guess we just waited for less than 10 mins for all the food from the time we ordered.
VIP Lunch Set (4.7/5) – $55
I would say the VIP lunch set is good set of meal for 2. It has set of sushi, assorted tempura, crab and cucumber salad.
They have tako nigiri, tamago nigiri, avocado maki, mango maki, dynamite roll (one of the best in this set) . They are really good. The tempura has 2 broccoli, 2 yam, 2 shrimp (the other one thats best on this set as well) and it is not oily and the batter is light. Sorry forgot to take picture on assorted tempura.
Rock Shrimp Tempura(5/5) – $19
It has a little bit of kick which compliments its flavor. The shrimp is cooked perfectly.
Unagi Fried Rice(4.7/5) – $24
You can taste that it was cooked in a wok. I would suggest that don’t shred unagi (you can have option to have it shred or not).
Unagi (shredded) Fried Rice and rock shrimp tempura works well with each other.
Sakura Slushie (4/5) $7 – I added an extra tapioca pearls for 75c. The mango is a little bit sour but the mango jelly works well with it as well. For presentation I was expecting the color to be more like of red ish color due to the name but its more like a mango slushie.

We ordered the sushi rolls which we found to have a lot of rice in it. Their rainbow roll was not very good, it had very thin fish on top and only had tempura crumbs on the inside and nothing else. The price was too high for the quality of sushi we were getting. The price for the tataki was high too. Service was good and atmosphere was nice though.
