I was very excited to visit this restaurant because I visited a similar restaurant whilst in Sugarland, Texas. On entry, the hostess was really friendly and welcoming. She smiled and walked us to our table.

Awesome customer service, the food was delicious. Noticed some spots in the whole restaurant needed to be cleaned but all in all it’s a very nice place.

Used to be a little better before covid. They don’t offer sushi anymore or at least when we were there. Now the prices are HIGHLY inflated, for hibachi. It cost my family of 7, several hundred dollars. I could’ve ate at Chama Guacha or Brasao for less, had top notch service, better food and surroundings. They gave us paper menus with writing that isn’t legible and incorrectly spelled so I couldn’t understand. Service was sub par. The ventilation system is abhorrent. It was smoky the entire time, couldn’t breathe. It was super dark, makes me wonder if they’re trying to hide a building that isn’t being taken care of. Then they automatically added 18% gratuity to the charges when I should’ve had the power to decline it. Will NEVER go back and never recommend it to anyone.

I took my wife, daughter and son-in-law to Sumo’s, and we had a wonderful time. The food is absolutely delicious, but the best part of the whole experience was the chef who served us. He was delightful what with all of the food preparation and serving tricks that he had “up his sleeve,” so to speak. The “volcano” was my favorite (with real fire, no less!), and the way the food was so skillfully prepared it left one in continual amazement! When I visit San Antonio, Texas I will definitely eat at Sumo Japanese Steakhouse again!

Fun experience and amazing food! Only complaint is the waiter came over multiple times to confirm the order. Also cook took a while to start our food. Price wise I’ve had just as good Hibachi for much less.

They have changed their policy since I’ve last visited to reservations only which is fine however they will not seat your party until everyone is there. If someone shows up late they will not seat them at all. Make sure your entire group is there on time or they will miss the party. Restaurant needs a good deep cleaning but the food itself is good and fresh. Our chef didn’t do many tricks or talk much. Hoping to get someone different next time.

This place is overrated. Food was ok, salty. Idk what that was with the salad and soup, we couldn’t even eat that. There was smoke everywhere and they to open the door, it didn’t feel or tastes fancy, but they charged fancy prices

The food was AMAZING! Our chef was very nice, just a little on the quiet side. It was a very long wait. Make reservations!

Sumo is mainly reservation only, but we got lucky and were able to get a seat without a reservation. First positive, the family we shared the table with was fantastic. The server was attentive and kept our glasses full and area clean. He was also very personable. The cook was fantastic engaging at all levels. We had 4 adults, a teenager and an 8 year old at the table, and he made the experience enjoyable for everyone. The 8 year old never got board. The food was very good and wel cooked. Sumos is pricey but worth it.

Wife and I have come alone and with a group. We love it. Great atmosphere especially when you sit with a group that likes to interact with you. We’ve been served by Tommy, Juan & Matt “Vader” and all of them put their all into their food and service. You want to be romantic and left alone, might want to reconsider. You want to come be a little funny, a little loud
