My experience today was very bad. It was a family dinner with my small kids. The kids made a little mess, as children usually do. I had customized my tip amount, but the lady who ran the restaurant forced me to pay the tip, even though I had already intended to pay more than what she asked. I felt she did this out of disrespect. She ruined our dinner, and my kids were upset because she said, “Your kids made a mess, so you have to pay a service fee.”

For context, I lived in Japan for a long time, and I have never encountered such rude behavior from a Japanese person before. This was the first time in my life I’ve been forced to pay a tip like that!

Excellent Japanese food with a bonus heated seating area under a tent. Cooked options have unique flavours like the sesame chicken. Friendly service. Good sized dishes reasonably priced.

Gia was friendly and helpful! I had the triple fried rice and it was delicious. I also had albacore and unagi. They were tasty as well. Main course was the Nabeyaki Udon. So good! Service was excellent and so was the food! Just go!

My visit to Sumo was beyond amazing, and I loved the quality of their food! Every dish was delicious and tasty. Manager and server were so professional and kind; visited our table and made sure everything was good! I also adored the ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall, it was a fantastic experience at this sushi Japanese restaurant! I would highly recommend this place! So fresh

I’ve been coming to Sumo for years, probably over 200 times, and it’s sad to see how much this place has changed. My recent visit was easily the worst experience I’ve ever had here.

From the moment we walked in, the waiter was unnecessarily rude and rushed us to order — despite the restaurant being nearly empty, two hours after opening. When I asked for a little more time, he came back less than a minute later, clearly impatient.

When the food arrived, I was shocked. My sushi roll looked like it was thrown together — half of it had fallen apart and was sitting off to the side of the plate. It looked like a kid made it. I wish I had taken a photo because it genuinely looked like it was sent out carelessly. To make things worse, the sushi chef kept staring at me the entire time, which made the experience feel really uncomfortable and almost hostile.

I’ve never left a bad review before, but this felt worth mentioning because I truly hope management reads this and takes it seriously. This restaurant used to feel welcoming and consistent — now it feels like no one cares about quality or customer experience anymore. I won’t be coming back unless things change.

Ps, the rude waiter was a girl(I forgot her name but she was younger), and the rude sushi chef was an older man that seems to enjoy making his customers feel uncomfortable the entire time they’re there.

My wife and had a rare date night and we haven’t gone out for sushi since we moved to the area. I wanted a place that was affordable yet still had a nice atmosphere, and after doing some online research, Sumo kept coming up as something that might fit the bill. I’m happy to report that it did absolutely that and we had a wonderful time!

It was busy, but not over-crowded and we were sat right away. The food was amazing and everything we got the bill was still tolerable. I’m keto and they were able to use cucumber instead of rice for rolls and it was really fantastic. I kind of wish there were more options of specialty rolls as a great deal of their rolls had either the krabmeat or tempura, but there was plenty of options and everything was fantastic.

If you’re looking for a sushi place, you shouldn’t think twice about giving Sumo a try. Whether it’s for a date night OR with the kids… this is really a great spot. So glad we found it!

I’ve been going to sumo for over 10 years. Their service is fantastic and the sushi is always on point. They have a great happy hour and since COVID- added a new outside seating area. I frequently order the rose roll, house roll, spicy albacore sashimi (appetizer), the spicy tuna on crispy rice, garlic edamame, and the fried vegetable tempura. I’ve had many other dishes and those are good also.

Service is always shotty, never offers refills on drinks, our last waiter was rude, took our credit card and held onto it even though we were at the restaurant an extra ten minutes waiting.

Which gave them an adequate amount of time to return our credit card.

Then because it was my husband’s card I asked to pick it up while he was at work and we share the same last name and they treated me like I was dishonest.

What about them and their staff are they 100% honest?

If you’re going to be sticklers about cards how about you ID every table and transaction?

How about you ask your waiter why they didn’t return the card to the customer?

I was looking for a meeting happy hour spot AND sushi spot in general that’s fairly close to home. I actually randomly found this place by driving by. I know weird right?

Didn’t even look it up before I went. But
sometimes you’ve just got to do it. And if you get lucky you find an awesome new spot. Well that was the case

for this place.
Now that I’ve been here a few times. I think it’s time for a review.
Upon walking up to the door I was greeted immediately.

Chose to sit outside in their tent area. Although they offer indoor seating I didn’t opt for that on this visit.

They have QRcode menus. Very easy to understand.
Plenty of pictures of the food if you need to see them. Descriptions of the food are clear.
I went with many things on the menu.

The happy hour menu is very big for a happy hour menu.
The prices are right and the food is delicious.
I especially liked the garlic chili edamame.
Would I recommend this place? Yes!
The staff is all very nice.

The menu is very easy to understand.
I will definitely be returning here many times.

Decor: New modern, clean.

Staff: no issues they always make it right.

Food: above average

Bathroom: N/A didn’t use them.

It’s a shame the service here is so awful because the fish is high quality. It doesn’t really matter how good a meal is though if your server is discriminatory, presumptive, and refuses to correctly place your order. I asked to substitute the spicy tuna with spicy salmon for a specialty roll because of more severe health reactions I’ve had to the mercury levels in tuna. I also requested they use Hokkaido scallops instead of Bay scallops. The waiter refused (three times) to put in this request because it was “too expensive”. I asked him “for who? The restaurant or me?” He said, “too expensive for you.” We ended up having to request management to come over who attempted to correct the problem, only to bring the roll out covered in tuna as well. It also took quite a long time to even get their attention to address any of these issues. Then another additional amount of time to totally remake the roll. I won’t be returning for in person dining again. This place is better for take out.
