Sumo Dog takes the American Classic hot dog and redefines it with Japanese ingredients, inspiration and tradition. It is the brainchild of Jeffrey Lunak, a veteran of “Iron Chef” Morimoto’s Restaurant Group. Sumo Dog explores the combinations of the American classic with a heavy nod to the Japanese Izakaya. Who are we? We are the American band who just got back from touring Japan. We are the All-Star Baseball team who mastered Karate. We are both a dragon dipped in mustard, and an eagle topped with nori. We are all things stars, stripes and big red suns. And we are here to fill your belly, warm your soul, and make you smile.

The staff was super friendly too.
Food was great ordered a godzilla, miso katsu and a katsu sando. Very tasty ok overall and great textures, solid price.
Service was great, ordering was quick and food was served within 5 minutes.
Atmosphere was good, oxbow market itself is very lively and has great options. Sumo dog have their own counters if you wish tomjave seating that way.
The fried dog had a real nice texture with the miso flavoring just right and didn’t over powered the dog. With the light mayo on top with scallions it was just enough to give it a bit more flavor. I also had the coleslaw on the side but I could see how the slaw could go well all together in a single bite, I just prefer to eat it separately so it’s not a big mess in my hands all at once.
If anyone was wondering how hotdogs and Asian flavors go together, it’s just the right enough of a balance to be its own thing.
