Every dish we tried was a 5! My husband is not a big fan of BBQ as a rule but, brought me for a birthday lunch. I’m a big fan of BBQ. He loved the fried shrimp but was amazed at how flavorful and juicy the sausage is! We also had brisket and tried the fries, potato salad, meaty beans, okra, and hush puppies. Each dish was… well, it was just delicious!
The staff was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Hubby is already planning our next visit so we can try the ribs and green beans (and so he can have more sausage! )
(The photo doesn’t show the huge serving of okra. It’s in the shrimp basket. Those are huge servings!)

After hearing a handful of rave reviews, we finally brought the family out on a Friday night to give it a try ourselves. My in-laws also met us there, so we had 4 adults, 1 grown kid, and 2 little kids, and literally all of us liked every single thing. We shared bites of this & that so we could all try as much as possible. I personally ordered the brisket sandwich with fried okra, and dang, both were super delicious! The kids cheeseburger was hefty, and way more than we expected. The kids grilled cheese was soo good and buttery. The sausage was super smokey, and the cheese grits were yummy as well. My husband ordered a two-meat sampler meal (with pulled pork and catfish), with two sides, and it was a HUGE amount of food. There was live music and plenty of space and noise so that mid girls could have fun and play around. Great local place, well certainly be back again.

The cook “Tim” is a great cook, smoker, greeter, clean up person and Summer associate. He sure knows the meaning of diversified duties. His signature Briskett is off the charts. I’ve spent a day with Tim and proud he is not, aside from his “smoker”. On breaks he interacted with just about every customer and humor will tickle your heart. This is the quint essential ma & pa restaurant and the food is second to none. You will not find fancy expensive building but you will not stop talking about the food and service. So if your from Tallahassee or just visiting, Summers is a must visit.

I had the distict privilege of visiting Summers Smokehouse for lunch on March, 27th. It was a privilege because the food was fantastic, but mostly it was because of the incredible hospitality of Nathan, the owner and Timmy, who was taking care of the smoker along with Nathan’s dad. We got a complete tour with Timmy, who introduced us to everyone there and even blessed my partner and I with a sample of the ribs fresh from the smoker. Yes, I had the shrimp basket and it was awesome, the shrimp were fresh and the coleslaw amazing. My partner had the pulled pork sandwich, which I sneaked a taste of and it was delicious. Nathan explained that it was Texas barbecue style, so not so engorged with sauce that you can’t taste the meat. So happy it’s not Sonny’s which is only slightly passable as edible for my taste, which favours a direct grill, coming from South Africa where we favour the grill (braaivleis, mense). Anecdotally, they had the flag for Isle of Man, for which I am sure there is a story. Ill be returning for that and more of their good food.

Left our home in Dedtin late and made it here for dinner on our way to Gainesville. Prices were reasonable. Out of brisket. I got the tenderest pulled pork, peppery collard greens and yummy everything chees grits. He got half a chicken, yummy baked beans and fries. Huge portions that will make a great breakfast. Sat next to the fire and listened to live music. Great experience!

Order at the counter, make yourself at home type place. All the construction and police workers were there for the same reason my family of hybrid athletes was there. For all the juicy smokehouse meat cooked to perfection, quality sides selection not just fried stuff , variety of wonderful flavor sauces that actually have clearly different bases and seasonings, plus a homemade cake slice selection. Old “Roadhouse” style environment with pool tables and stage for live bands meets some of the best BBQ you’ll ever have.

Ordered 4 meat/4 sides for two. The ribs literally fell off the bone(we had a double order); the brisket was very moist and tender. We also got the sausage, which had a nice smoky flavor with a little peppery kick. Our sides were the cheesy grits, which were delicious, the meaty beans, which I thought were great. My date said they weren’t sweet enough. I had the pasta salad which I really liked and the greens. The greens were very tender but a little bland.
I would definitely recommend this place. My only critique is to serve the meat as hot as the beans were. The meat was lukewarm. All in all, the service was excellent and the food was great!

I visited during a weekday at noon, and it was still quite busy! My friend ordered the brisket sandwich and absolutely loved it.
I had the two-meat combo, which was also very satisfying. The chicken was perfectly smoked and juicy, while the ribs melted in your mouth with every bite. The flavor was outstanding!
The sides were equally impressive. Both the coleslaw and potato salad were refreshing and delicious.

Went to try bbq today for lunch (Saturday, Memorial Weekend). We were greeted by two friendly workers. Placed our order (3 brisket sandwiches, 1 brisket plate). Everything was hot, fresh & delicious! Servers were super friendly. Picked up a piece of the coconut cake to have later today. Highly recommend — clean, welcoming & good food !
