All is good, except the seaweed on the tuna sushi is old, and the yellowtail (hamachi) sashimi has tough connective tissue (?) that is unchewable.
The cushions are comfortable for back support. Plastic tableware and disposable chopsticks.
The complimentary cucumber dish has a pleasant spicy kick, which is appreciated.
A child is running around the dining area.
We enjoyed an order of edamame while our dinner was being prepared. My wife had the Seafood Ramen, which contained a healthy serving of noodles, shrimp, squid, egg, and vegetables, including corn, scallion, and seaweed, all in a deep, decorative 9″ bowl.
I opted for the Shrimp with Vegetable Tempura, which was as beautiful as it was delicious. It was served on a lacquered wooden plate and contained lightly battered Tempura-fried shrimp, two slices of sweet potato, one each of broccoli, cauliflower, mushroom, and zucchini, and a large onion ring on top. It came with a bowl of rice, a cup of miso soup, and a side salad.
Each item was as delicious and plentiful as it was appealing. We didn’t order sushi, but what we saw being served at other tables was similarly appealing and plentiful. We’ll need to try some on our next trip.
Our server, Suky, was always smiling. She had a very pleasant personality and was attentive without being imposing; a balance of traits many servers fail to accomplish.
The restaurant is in the process of securing a liquor license, which we look forward to because some saki or wine would have added to the experience. This is a local place we’ll be certain to return to again and again.
I ordered the spicy tuna–stuffed jalapeños, which I also had on my first visit. They were just as good the second time around and remain one of my favorite items on the menu so far. Flavorful, balanced, and very satisfying.
I also ordered two sushi rolls. One was the Ginza roll (number 1), and the other was Sex in the Lobby (number 15).
Sex in the Lobby was easily my favorite. The fish on top was fresh, the flavors worked perfectly, and I honestly have no notes.
The Ginza roll was good overall, but it had an unusually large amount of spicy tuna. I love spicy tuna, but this was a bit much for me personally.
I don’t remember the exact rolls I ordered on my first visit, but I do remember really enjoying them and leaving very full. For a small sushi spot tucked away in the suburbs, this place delivers consistently good food.
I’ll definitely continue to patron this restaurant and would recommend it if you’re looking for solid sushi without having to go downtown
