There’s no real reason to eat at Summer Place in Republic unless you live in Republic—or know someone who does. And yet, that’s exactly what makes it so fascinating.
We came in for a Friday night fish fry with my wife and grandparents. I’m 27. I was easily 50 years younger than every other diner in the room. It felt like we had walked in on a neighborhood dinner party that had been running since the 1970s—and somehow, we were welcome to join for the cost of a meal.
The space is simple: a modest dining room in a clearly older building, with decor that fits the town’s character—aged, but not tired. The vibe was incredibly local: old Yooper fishermen and their wives swapping fishing tales and post-op surgery updates between bites of perch and potatoes. It wasn’t loud, but the whole room felt like it had been in conversation for decades.
The fried fish and chicken were great—crispy, hot, and generously portioned. Fries and sides were solid. This isn’t cutting-edge cuisine, but it’s well-made comfort food that does exactly what it’s supposed to.
Service matched the setting: casual, efficient, and a little weary, like the staff were balancing real lives in a town of 1,000 with the nightly ritual of feeding the entire over-70 population of Marquette County.
It’s hard to rate a place like this by normal standards. Summer Place isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a glimpse into a community that most people never think to visit. It feels private, but isn’t. And once you’ve been, you get it. I’d absolutely go back.

This was a great little diner to eat at! The pancakes are the best you will ever have, but only have 1 because they are huge! I will definitely come back here when I’m in the area!

The place was wonderful. Very friendly and clean place. The kiddos, 3 of them between the ages of 7 to 11, said that this was better than McDonald’s,.lol..kids. The portions were large and filling. The pancakes were delicious and fluffy. We had a great time looking at all the old cookware on the wall. Will definitely return again if in this part of Yopper land.

It wasn’t what we expected because we heard how good it was. Pretty dated…..but have to admit the food was good!

Rustic diner feel. Excellent service this is our second trip to The Summer Place. And they never disappoint. The first time we went I had the fish fry, it was amazing. And so much fish!! The portion for your money is outstanding. This time we went for breakfast and I’ve never seen such a big omelette so full of bacon, mushrooms, onions, and cheese. I have a healthy appetite and couldn’t eat it all. I also have to give the cook 2 thumbs up the people who ordered pancakes got theirs first this is an experienced cook one who knows the two shouldn’t be cooked together. Pancakes were fluffy and delicious and no onions or things in them that shouldn’t be. Over all very impressed with everything about our experience. We will be back.

Just moved here, figured wed give this place a try, don’t bother. Seemed nice at first but the service was non existent and after about 30 minutes we finally placed our order to sit there for another almost hour to have nothing come but watch others receive their food who showed up after us. Basically if you’ve never been here and aren’t “known” or a “regular” don’t even attempt as you will never get served.
