Christmas Eve Dinner at Sumittra Thai Cuisine
On Christmas Eve 2025, we spent a wonderful evening in Frederick, Maryland, with our dear friends Dr. J. Zhang and his wife, ZF. We began the night by strolling along Carroll Creek Linear Park to enjoy Frederick’s festive boat light show, “Sailing Through the Winter Solstice”. The creatively decorated boats glowing at dusk were charming and beautifully done.
After the show, we walked to Sumittra Thai Cuisine in downtown Frederick for dinner. The cozy restaurant serves Thai fusion dishes and felt like the perfect place to warm up and relax.
We started with Chicken Satay and Moo Ping, skewers of grilled pork tenderloin marinated in coconut milk, followed by my favorite Seafood Tom Yum soup, all paired nicely with a smooth and lightly sweet Bangkok Lager. For the main courses, we shared Pad Thai with beef, Chicken Drunken Noodles, Pad Prik Pao Talay with mixed seafood, and Moo Yang, Thai-style marinated BBQ pork with green papaya salad and jasmine rice. The Chicken Drunken Noodles were the most popular at the table, while the Pad Prik Pao Talay, with its flavorful mussels, shrimp, and fragrant basil, was my personal favorite.
We ended the meal with coconut rice pudding, a gentle and satisfying finish.
More than just a dinner, it was a special way to spend Christmas Eve, good food, festive lights, and meaningful time with close friends made the evening truly memorable.

Came for pickup to feed 5 adults and 2 kids that nibble – came out to about $88 dollars or so
Good sized portions. I feel like in the restaurant the portions are even bigger, from what I saw on the plates. But I feel content
No images of the food but we got green curry, drunken noodle with squad, vegetable mix and vegetable puffs (these were very very good, only 2 to an order)
Staff was very nice and it was busy on Sunday evening. Decor is fun and great to look at. Real good use of their space

Stopped by for a late afternoon/not quite early bird special dinner meal with the kids. Everything we ate was delicious!!
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We were very attended to and never wanted for a thing!
The serving sizes were perfect. Bathrooms were clean.
We absolutely love Thai food and this will be a place we hit routinely when we are in Frederick.

First time trying Thai food and stopped here with a friend for late lunch. It was not crowded until we were leaving. The service was quick. Lots of delicious sounding things on the menu. Opted to try a noodle soup which was sooo good. I love cabbage and this soup was perfect for me. The portions were huge and could make several meals! I enjoyed the atmosphere and liked the food! I also tried pad Thai and friend rice. Looking forward to trying more Thai food and coming back here when I’m in town!

This place is a gem in Downtown Frederick. The food is great and always consistent. I’m not even a fan of Thai food and I like this place a lot. The staff are also so friendly and respectful. Their entire menu is good with some of the best bubble tea and Thai coffee around. I highly recommend the basil fried rice, drunken noodles, crispy chicken is amazing and any of the Thai coffees. I definitely recommending coming here and giving their food a try!

Went to this restaurant for lunch. It’s in downtown Fredrick. Had a 40 min wait during the weekend. It’s a small cozy space. We tried their drinks and Macha bubble tea. They were all good. We ordered Thai basil fried rice, yellow curry base soup and stir fried veggies, stir fried eggplant with noodles. They were all very flavorful and delicious. The flavors were bursting and strong. I think best Thai food I have eaten in the US. Highly recommend! Service was good too.

We had a little wait before we got seated. The place is small but cozy. The server took her time explaining what items were that I inquired about. The food was pretty tasty and I was able to take some home with me because I was full from having a soup appetizer. I definitely recommend this restaurant and would visit again if ever in town.

A solid four star for this Thai restaurant. The food is fresh and decently done. However everything is too sweet, sometimes the sweetness dominates the dish. Service and atmosphere are pretty good.
